Born in Newark, NJ, Geneva Williams was the beloved child of Charley Williams and Blanche Anderson Williams.
Geneva attended Newton Street Elementary School in Newark, NJ. She excelled academically and later pursued a postsecondary degree in pharmacology. At just 19 years old, an accident changed the course of her life and left her disabled. Her life took a different path than the one she had imagined, but her spirit was indomitable!
Geneva was an avid reader. She read the newspaper daily and enjoyed discussing current events. Geneva also loved going to Broadway plays in New York City.
After the passing of her parents, Charley Williams and Blanche Anderson Williams, Geneva made her home at Sinai, formerly known as Jay Street Nursing Home, where she has resided since May 23, 2005.
It was during her years at Sinai that Geneva found joy in accessorizing her outfits with fashionable handbags. She loved her handbags. Geneva also enjoyed playing Bingo and participating in Sinai bake sales. One of her favorite treats was Strawberry Cheesecake.
Geneva was preceded in death by her father, Charley Williams; her mother, Blanche Anderson Williams; and her sister, Charlene Williams.
She leaves behind nieces, Joyce Williams Stefan, Verble Williams Alexander; cousin, Linda Vann-Dupree; her nurse, Kavel Hamilton and Pamela Taylor, who provided professional CNA services sprinkled with care and love for over 13 years! There are also a host of relatives and friends who will forever carry memories of her in their hearts.
Geneva's life was not defined by the accident she experienced or by the challenges that followed. She was so much more than that.
Geneva was truly one of a kind. She was spunky, strong-willed, stubborn, and never afraid to speak her mind. She knew what she wanted, knew what she liked and was never afraid to let you know it. That was Geneva. She had a personality and spirit all her own, and anyone who knew her could tell you that she was never afraid to be herself.
Geneva Williams peacefully departed this life while at University Hospital in Newark, NJ, on September 9, 2026. Although there is emptiness in our hearts today, we find comfort knowing that Geneva is no longer burdened by the challenges she faced in this life. We hope that she is now reunited with her parents and sister, surrounded by the love and peace she deserves.
