Mr. James Edward Rivers, born January 10. 1949, departed this life on February 17. 2024. James was educated in the public-school system of Duval County, Jacksonville, Florida. James received his early Christian experience at New St. James AME Church. He was preceded in death by his parents Reverend Arthur Mitchell, Sr., and Mrs. Mary Lee Mitchell his brothers, Travis Mitchell, Sr., Isaac Hugger, and Bobby Mitchell. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Cynthia Neal Rivers, son, Bernard Rivers; daughter, Jameka Rivers; grandchildren and eleven siblings and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and many devoted friends. The Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, February 24 at 11:00a.m., at The Potter's House International Ministries, 5119 Normandy Boulevard. The viewing will be held Friday, February 23,2024 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at James Graham Mortuary, 3631 Moncrief Road. The burial will take place at the National Cemetery, Monday, February 26th @ 10:00am.

Cynthia and Family I hurt because you hurt and for myself. No one that has met Shorty Rivers will ever forget him, although he was rather low keyed and did not try to draw attention to himself, you knew he was there. He will be missed.
