Mr. Carl L. Poston, age 82, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, in Nashville, Tennessee.
Carl lived a life defined by honor, dedication, and service. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, retiring with the rank of Sergeant First Class after nearly 22 years of distinguished military service from August 3, 1961, to July 1983. Following his military retirement, he continued his commitment to serving others as Director of Veterans Affairs for the State of Tennessee, where he faithfully served from 1983 to 2006, advocating for and supporting fellow veterans for 23 years.
Above all, Carl was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, family member, and friend whose kindness, strength, and unwavering love will be cherished by all who knew him.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Rayshell Poston; daughters, Cheryl Eden, Carla Fontenot, and Cheree Lester; son, Rayshaun Lester; granddaughter, Chrystina Robinson; grandsons, Carl Robinson and Paxton Marshall; brother , John Poston, along with many other loving relatives and dear friends.
Mr. Carl L. Poston was preceded in death by his mother, Hattie V. Penn, and his brother, William B. Penn.
In accordance with the family’s wishes, no services will be held.
