In Loving Memory of Elodie Batts
October 28, 1938 – September 15, 2026
Elodie Alexander Batts was born on October 28, 1938 to the late Jesse James Alexander and Mary Sue Alexander. She was married over 60 years to the late Tommy Lee Batts. She had one son Mark Anthony Batts (nickname Jit Batts) (deceased). She leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved daughter, Crystal (Keith), two grandsons, Kevin Batts (Julia), and Andre Batts whom she lovingly guided and constantly advised on how to navigate through life; and five great-grandchildren. Her two cherished nieces, Barbara Mallett and Mildred Lambert, who were raised alongside her as sisters and shared a special lifelong bond.
She was a devoted nurse, and a woman of faith whose life was dedicated to serving and nurturing others. She attended Holloway High School and graduated from the Rutherford Hospital Licensed Practical Nurse program in 1962. Her dedication to nursing was more than a profession; it was a reflection of her genuine caring for others and making a difference in their lives. Her presence brought comfort and meaning to those around her. She was especially known for the guidance she gave to those she loved. Her words of wisdom and advice were her way of helping her family and others navigate life.
She also leaves two beloved great-nieces, Tanisha Mallett and Malikha Mallett, who held a special place in her heart;
A first cousin, Rev. George Clark, who was much more than a cousin. They shared a lifelong bond that was like that of a brother and sister—built on love, understanding, and countless memories. Their special connection was a treasured part of her life.
She will also be remembered by extended family, loved ones, and friends whose lives she touched through her kindness, faith, generosity, and nurturing spirit.
Though she has completed her earthly journey, the lessons she taught, the love she gave, and the lives she touched will continue to live on through her family and all who knew her.
Family visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 from 10:00am-11:00am at St Mark's United Methodist Church, 1267 N Rutherford Blvd, Murfreesboro, TN 37130. Funeral Service will follow at 11:00am.
A private interment will take place at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.

Miss Elodie was a mainstay at Key. She loved her some Butler children. She is now resting peacefully in the arms of Jesus.
Crystal my heart goes out to you, because there is nothing sadder than to lose your mother. God bless you and keep you and your family safe from harm. She's cared for so many over the years, now it's time for her to take her rest. ❤️
It is with a heavy heart that I acknowledge the passing of Mrs. Batts. She was the cornerstone of Key and knew Link/ Dolores Butler and child REAL well. Please know that she is now resting peacefully in the loving arms of Jesus. 💕
I am so sorry to hear about Sweet Lodi Home Going. I hope that her family will take comfort in knowing that Lodi is resting comfortably in the arms of our African ancestors in the House of our Lord, Jesus Crist!
My sincere condolences and prayers for the family. My parents worked with Miss Elodie for years as nurses,they loved her so much, she was a co-worker as well as a friend, and by the time I had the honor and pleasure of working with her, I felt that I already knew her, and you knew when Miss Elodie was there everything was going to be alright, and if not she would make it right, no matter what! She was a caring and compassionate nurse and human being with a big dose of humor, wisdom and common sense, she kept me laughing all the time! God bless, and comfort you, family and friends, and all the lives touched by Miss Elodie.

I am heartbroken to hear about Mrs.Elodie. As a caregiver, she bought so much comfort and joy to those around her, including the clients family members and her colleagues. Mrs. Elodie always called me to be on her team and I'm grateful for that. She talked about her family often with love, she passed away doing what she loved doing taking care of others. We are deeply saddened in the transition of our beloved lifelong neighbor and dear friend Mrs.Elodie. She had a servant's heart ❤️ and was always going and doing as God intend us to do. I had the great honor to work along side this precious lady for several years! She was an incredible nurse and a lived a life of always serving others! She often shared that she hoped to care for others until the Lord called her home.... Just like her mother! Crystal and family ...she loved each of you and was always wanting "better" for each you! She was a proud mom, grandmother! Please know how blessed I was that she and I stayed in touch. Her phone calls often ended up discussing the daily events both local and in the world but she could end it with " we know how the story ends"!.I am so sorry for your loss but Heaven gained a servant who had given her all! With much love to each of you for sharing her with so many!

Elodie was one of the sweetest and funniest people that I know. It was always a pleasure when I got to see her at my work. I was thinking of something on the way to work today, that I wanted to tell her. So say things while you have the opportunity. Ms Elodie you will always be in my heart.
