Mr James “Jimmy” Drayton age 73, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024 in Peoria, IL.

James E. Drayton was born on March 3, 1951, in Evanston, IL to Annie Pearl and Geoge Hardy Drayton.

James “Jimmy” of Peoria, IL worked for over 30 years as a Security Guard at Evanston Township High School which he enjoyed and spoke about in almost all his conversations. He also was an avid fan and enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs play.

On Thursday August 15, 2024, Jimmy was admitted to OSF St Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL due to complications caused by Sepsis. On Thursday August 29, 2024, after a courageous battle, Jimmy passed away quietly in his sleep.

James was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Pearl Drayton, father, George Hardy Drayton, and brother, George “ Pookie” Drayton.

He is survived by his loving nephew, Aaron Drayton, sister-in-law Ednina Drayton, first cousins, Mildred Bailey, Jewel Blackwell, Thomas Caruthers, Dennis Caruthers, Darlene Smith, Jenelle Whitside, Charlotte Caruthers, Allen Caruthers, Fredericka Hall, Yvonne Jackson, Pamela Williams, Janet Thompson, Judith Trent, Wanda Sweatt, Webster Jackson, a devoted friend Antoinette Gaines and a host of many other cousins and friends.

Jimmy lived a vibrant life filled with love, kindness, and joy. He touched many hearts and will be deeply missed. His spirit will forever inspire those who knew and loved him.

May he rest in everlasting peace.

Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 11:00 am at Greenlawn Cemetery, Old Hickory, TN.
