Michael Austin, 74, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 15, 2026 in Hermitage, TN.
Michael Kevin Austin was born on July 22, 1951 in Madison, Tennessee, to the late Samuel Austin and Mary Elizabeth Lindsley.
He peacefully departed this life on February 15, 2026
At an early age, Michael professed his faith in Jesus Christ and united with First Baptist Church Hopewell. Michael was educated in the Nashville Public School System and was a proud graduate of Dupont High School, where he distinguished himself as an All-Star basketball player. His exceptional talent and love for the game earned him a basketball scholarship to attend Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Basketball remained one of Michael’s lifelong passions. Beyond his own accomplishments, he found great joy in coaching youth basketball, mentoring them both on and off the court. He had a true love for grilling, and his family and friends always looked forward to his famous ribs and fried turkeys.
He was employed with the Metro Circuit Courts, where he served for many years until his retirement.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Austin and Mary Elizabeth Lindsley, his brother, Ronald Austin and beloved aunt, Dorothy Lyons.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Amelia Austin; his daughters, Kimberly Austin and Aisha (Geauthor) Hayes; his sister,
Adrena Austin; his brother, Ricky Austin; devoted cousin, Melvin (Margaret) Lindsley; and his grandchildren, Najee Brogdon, Noah Brogdon, Gia Hayes, and Geauthor Hayes III. He also leaves behind numerous devoted nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Celebration of Life Arrangements are as follows:
Family Visitation will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026 from 12noon until 1pm with funeral service immediately following.
Visitation and Service will be held at First Baptist Church Hopewell located at 4033 Lafayette Avenue in Old Hickory, TN.

I remember coming home from a road trip with Michael and Amelia and Michael teaching me how to read road signs, markers, and connectors. That has always stuck with me in my travels. Ty big brother for the memories.
