Obituary For Richard Lee Brewer

Mr. Richard Lee Brewer 79 of Mt. Pleasant, Texas died Friday October 6, 2017 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Services will be held Saturday October 14, 2017 at 11 a.m. at First Church of God In Christ in Mt. Pleasant, Texas; with Superintendent Tommy Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Searcy Cemetery. Services are under the direction of J.C. White Funeral & Cremation Services of Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Richard Lee Brewer was born on October 21, 1937 to Jack and Gaytha (Quarrels) Brewer, Sr. in Wright, Oklahoma. He was the fourth child born to this union. He spent his youth growing up in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas. He attended Booker T Washington School in Mount Pleasant, Texas. He joined the United States Army and served from 1956 until 1958in Seattle, Washington and an additional two years in the Army reserve. He returned to Mt Pleasant where he married Merlissa Jane Lee on December 23, 1958. To this union, eight children were born. Following in his father’s footsteps, he worked as a construction and cement contractor. He was known in the community as Mr. Fix-it and was called upon to build, complete, and remodel homes for many friends and neighbors. He and his wife are responsible for the concrete work surrounding The First Church of God in Christ. Hejoined the First Church of God in Christ, where he attended with his wife. He was a faithful servant of the church under Superintendent Tommy Smith. Loved dearly by his family, Richard is survived by his loving wife, Merlissa, their children; Richard (Rick) and Sherry Brewer, DelisaBrewer, William (Bill) and Sharon (Denice) Brewer, Barbara and Edward Christian Gilliam, Martha Brewer, Darron Brewer, Robert and Joanna Brewer and Donna Brewer. He is mourned by his sister,Eleanor Grant, brother, James Brewer, sisters-in-law; Vernice Lee, Mary Owens, Anna Lee, Linda Lee and brother-in-law, James Lee. He is survived by nine grandchildren; James, Merisha, Ashley, Marekia, Makesha, Rodrick, Jaden, Jacob, and Christina, many great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and his church family, The First Church of God in Christ. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Elizabeth (Brewer) Bacon, and his brothers, David Brewer, William (Bill)Brewer, Bobby Brewer and Jack Brewer, Jr. Viewing will be held Friday October 13, 2017 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. ONLY at First Church of God In Christ.
