In loving memory of Adelita Marie Collins, known to many as Leet, who was born on November 8, 1960, in Youngstown, OH to the union of Johnnie Collins and Cleo Fant Collins. This compassionate soul who graced the lives of many with her warmth and kindness departed from this life on November 1, 2024, after a short illness at Salem Regional Medical Center.
Leet graduated in1978 from South High School continuing her educational pursuits at the Ohio State University and Youngstown State University obtaining her Associates and Bachelor of Science degrees, specializing in nursing.
Adelita was recognized as a dedicated Registered Nurse at Youngstown Hospital Association. Her compassionate spirit and unwavering dedication to her patients will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. While she began her nursing career at the South Side Hospital, she discovered her passion in pediatric nursing touched countless hearts, nurturing the little ones in their time of need at the former Tod’s Children’s Hospital
Leet’s love for affinity for shopping, undaunting support for her beloved Yankees baseball team and chatting it up while “listening” to talk shows. Her perchance for rustling the pages of a good book, extensive traveling, and showcasing her culinary skills brought joy to her days.
Adelita’s love for family and friends knew no bounds and unquestionable. She leaves behind her beloved brother David (Dorothy) Collins, sister Bernice Collins, and brother John Collins.
Her legacy will be sustained by her nephew David "Little Dave" Collins and niece Doryion Glass. Leet shared an extraordinary relationship with her niece Jonnise Collins, who she nurtured as a child. In Leet’s latter days, Jonnise would become her primary caregiver.
Leet’s legacy has been entrusted into the hands of her great-nephews Markhi, Brandon, and Braeon, as well as great-nieces Brania and Brylee, along with a score of family and friends. The Collins family are appreciative of the support extended to Leet provided by her neighbor George, cousin Ricky Fant and her niece Jonnise. Adelita's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
As Adelita crossed into eternity, she was embraced by her parents who preceded her. She now joins a great cloud of witness to champion other to walk in love. With faith in the eternal bonds of love, we say goodbye yet hold her spirit close within us.
Adelita’s life journey, filled with moments of joy and love, will be recognized Wednesday November 13, 2024, in the Chapel of the J. E. Washington Funeral Services, 2234 Glenwood Ave, with a public viewing at 10:00 am. The Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 am with Rev. Kennth Riddle serving as the officiant.
At the conclusion of services, Adelita will be laid to rest at Belmont Park Cemetery, 3346 Belmont Ave, Youngstown, OH, May the gentle spirit of Adelita find peace in the embrace of heaven's grace, as we honor her remarkable life, a journey of love, service, and dedication.
Let Leet’s legacy of compassion and joy be a beacon of hope in our hearts. In her memory, let us carry forward her legacy of kindness, love, and compassion. Adelita's light will continue to shine in the hearts of those she has touched for generations to come.
