Obituary For Anthony Leslie Jordan, Jr.

It is with heavy hearts but joyful spirits that we celebrate the life of Anthony Leslie Jordan Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who departed from this world on December 1, 2024. Born on January 24, 1950, to the union of Lula Metts Jordan and Leslie Anthony Jordan in Youngstown, OH, Anthony filled his years with laughter, love, and legacy.

With roots deep in the heart of Kimmelbrook housing community, Anthony spent his teenage years in the beloved Brook City, where he shared his love for music as a member of the singing group “Blendtations.” Together with his brother, cousins and friends, they harmonized to the classic tunes of The Temptations, reminding us of the power of joy and community.

A proud veteran, Anthony enlisted in the United States Army on November 27, 1968, and served during the Vietnam War. Though his time in service came to an early end due to injuries sustained, Tony’s commitment to his nation remained steadfast throughout his life. He was recognized and honored for his commitment, reminding us not only of the sacrifices made by those who serve but also of the enduring spirit of resilience and strength embedded in his character.

Among his many gifts, Tony had a love for music that flowed through his veins. Perhaps it was through his music that he most clearly shared his spirit, his joy, and his unwavering love for those around him. Anthony was a nurturing soul, always ready to encourage others around him. It was evident that he had a fierce loyalty and passion for the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavs and Pittsburgh Pirates.

He basked in the love of family, leaving cherished memories with his beloved daughters Sallie Jordan and Nichole Jordan, along with his siblings, Sylvia (Charles) Powers, Joann (Gerald) Minor, and Merileen Ellison. He also leaves a friend which was close to him as a brother, Robert "Bobby'" West.

His legacy is emboldened by his grandchildren—Charles Miles Jr., Michael Jordan, Duan Jordan, Tashae Little, David Sherrod Jr., De’Juan Sherrod, and ShaQuayla Jordan—and the emerging generation of 14 great-grandchildren, whose laughter and joy will forever echo his legacy.

As his faith became sight, Anthony was welcomed into eternity by his parents, siblings Betty Jordan, Terrie Jordan, Thomas "Ham" Jordan, Michael "Big Mike" Jordan, an aunt who was like a mother Helen Jordan, cousins who he mentored Richard Jordan, Herman "Pigeon" Jordan and precious granddaughter Joyce Ann Jordan.

In the spirit of celebration, we invite you to join us as we honor the life of Anthony. There will be a public viewing at 10:00am on Monday December 9, 2024, at the Jaylex Event Center, 2110 Glenwood Ave, Youngtown. There will be a celebration of Life service with military honors, commencing at 11:00am with Pastor Young Tensley presiding.

With a committal service, Anthony will be laid to rest at Tod Homestead Cemetery replete with doves to be released symbolically to represent the liberation of his spirit. Though Anthony may no longer be physically with us, his spirit will resonate in the stories we share, the laughter of his grandchildren, and in every loving memory imprinted on our hearts.
