Obituary For Charlotte L. (Gilchrist) Ferguson

Charlotte L. (Gilchrist) Ferguson, 68, of Hermitage, PA, courageously surrendered after a long and fearless battle with breast cancer, surrounded by the love of those whose lives she touched. Her strength, determination, and unwavering faith carried her through many years of illness until the Lord called her home.

Charlotte was born on March 28, 1958, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, to the late Curtis T. Gilchrist and Lillian M. (Fleming) Gilchrist. She attended Sharon City Schools before earning her degree in Medical Secretary from the Shenango Valley School of Business.

She then served as a ward clerk at South Side Hospital and Northside Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio, where she faithfully worked for more than 25 years. Even after retiring from the hospital, Charlotte continued working with adults with special needs until her health no longer allowed her to do so.

A devoted woman of faith, Charlotte was a faithful member of Ruth AME Zion Church in Sharon, Pennsylvania. She proudly served on the Usher Board, greeting all who entered with warmth and kindness. One of the greatest honors of her life came recently when she was presented with the church's Woman of the Year Award, a recognition she accepted with humility and one that brought her tremendous joy and pride.

Charlotte was known for speaking her mind with honesty and conviction. She had a generous heart, a resilient spirit, and an infectious sense of humor. She deeply loved gathering with her family and friends, creating memories filled with laughter, stories, and unconditional love. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, whom she adored beyond measure.

Throughout her battle with breast cancer, she remained courageous and steadfast in her faith, inspiring everyone around her with her strength. Charlotte leaves to cherish her memory her three beloved children: Fawne (McMillan) Moon (Gerald) of Youngstown, Ohio; Ceira Moreland of Farrell, Pennsylvania; and Curtis Moreland of Chester, Pennsylvania.

She is also survived by her loving sisters, Jolaine Gilchrist-Pope (James) of Hermitage, Pennsylvania, and Theresa (Gilchrist) Massey, of Pottstown, Pennsylvania; her ten cherished grandchildren; one precious great-granddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, church family, and dear friends, especially Twila, Debbie Thomas, and Valerie Trudo to them Charlotte wanted to send a heartfelt "Thank-You & I love You"

She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis T. Gilchrist and Lillian M. (Fleming) Gilchrist, and her beloved brother, Reginald Gilchrist Sr.

A 10:30 AM family visitation, followed by an 11:00 AM memorial service celebrating Charlotte's life will be held Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Ruth AME Zion Church, 95 Connelly Boulevard, Sharon, Pennsylvania with Reverend William Rankin officiating and Apostle Pastor Patricia Tatum serving as the eulogist. Friends may visit with family at 10:30AM

Charlotte's faith never wavered, even in her final days. Though she will be deeply missed, Charlotte's love, courage, unwavering faith, and enduring legacy of service will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Revelation 2:10 "Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life"

For a caring farewell, at this time of intimate need and personal loss, the family of Charlotte L. Ferguson elected to entrust the Ministry of Comfort & Care, along with Transitional After-Care Arrangements to the J. E. Washington Funeral Services, 1059 Hamilton Ave, Farrell, PA 724.983.1523

To my favorite aunt Charlotte 'moon', im sure gonna miss you. The last time I saw you was this year on your birthday. I made it my business to see you and give you your gift. You told me that I need to quit smoking. And aunt Charlotte its been 3 months. I'll never forget how you always spoke you mind. And never let a person get the wrong idea or not understand what you mean. Love you aunt Charlotte
