Obituary For Clem Floyd

God sent His angels to the residence of Clem Floyd on Monday, December 8, 2025, to wrap their arms around him and gently escort him to his heavenly home. Clem was born November 21, 1927, in Birmingham, Alabama, the son of Clem Floyd Sr. and Carrie Harper Floyd. Clem served in the United States Armed Forces, both Army and Navy, receiving awards and citations for his tactical marksmanship. Upon completion of his military obligations, Clem was honorably discharged

Like millions of other African American families who left home in search of employment and security, Clem migrated from the rural agricultural south to the urban industrial north, securing a job at the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Industry. After a fulfilling career at the mill, he also worked as an auto mechanic and environmental technician where he was a respected member of his team before retiring from Sears & Roebuck Company and DeBartolo Incorporated.

Clem was known for the joy he found in the great outdoors- relaxing at a lake such as Lake Erie, Sandusky, Berlin Center and other Ohio waterfronts. He was always securing loads of his fresh catch for the neighborhood fish fry. He also enjoyed the sport of hunting…especially in the cold winter months. Music was another of Clem’s passions—Blues-Bobby Blue Bland, BB King and gospel -Shirley Caesar, Mahalia Jackson, music served as a backdrop to some of his happiest moments.

In his spirit of generosity, Clem touched the lives of many, inspiring younger generation through his encouragement, sharing his life experiences, kindness, and unwavering support. Clem Floyd is one of the last Cohasset Drive neighborhood fathers that watched a host of now adults grow up. On November 21, 2025, he was blessed with family and friends who stopped by his home to celebrate his birthday, his enormous smile showed how much he enjoyed the monumental celebration.

Clem Floyd’s greatest treasure was his family. He shared and cherished an enduring bond with his beloved wife Geneva Floyd, to whom he was married for sixty-five years. Together, they created a home filled with love, laughter and cherished memories of raising their children. Precious memories will be retained by daughters and son, Loretta Floyd Pleas (Harold, deceased), Tonya Lynn Floyd Jones (Randolph), Clem Floyd (Kimberly); grandchildren Marissa Walker, Angel Walker, Kyle Floyd and Andre Jones; great grandchildren Jermaine Bunn, J’Shon Bunn, Ivionna Lindsey, Anyla Lindsey and Liliona Lindsey; and his partners Pastor John Curtis and George (Sheila) McDaniels, Cora Finley and an abundance of family and friends.

As Clem crossed the celestial sands into eternity, he was reunited with his parents, bride and soulmate Geneva and brother Douglas Floyd, each who preceded him in death.

The warmth of Clem’s presence will be celebrated on Tuesday December 16, 2025, in the chapel of the J E Washington Funeral Home, 2234 Glenwood Ave. in Youngstown. There will be an 11:00 AM family visitation & gathering, followed by the Celebration of Life Memorial Services at 11:30 Noon with Rev. Lewis Macklin as the celebrant sharing words of comfort.

As we gather to remember Clem, we are reminded of his infectious charm, intellect, and kindness. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by those who have the privilege of knowing him. May his spirit continue to inspire and his memory live in our hearts.

At this time of intimate need and personal loss, the family of Clem Floyd elected to entrust the Ministry of Comfort & Care, along with Transitional After-Care Arrangements to the J. E. Washington Funeral Services, 2234 Glenwood Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio, 330.782.8500.
