With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Eddie Ruth Robinson, who departed this world peacefully on December 18, 2024, at the age of 94. Known to many as Ruth, she was born in Abbeville, SC, on February 11, 1930, the daughter of Carrie Mae Edwards-Robinson and Eddie Robinson.
Ruth was a pillar of strength and a guiding light to all who knew her. Her story is woven from threads of resilience, love, and an unwavering commitment to her family. To describe Ruth is to celebrate a life rich in wisdom and beauty.
She was famously "loyal to the soil," having deeply rooted her love for family in the values instilled from generations past. Ruth was proud of her southern heritage which encouraged her to embrace the blues as her preferred musical genre with an appreciation for the talents of Marvin Sease.
Through life's challenges, she wore her hope like a badge of honor, reminding us that a smile can light even the darkest of days. Her listening ears and open heart created a welcoming space for family gatherings filled with laughter, stories, and the secrets of life. Ruth enjoyed reading the paper while sipping on her coffee daily and participating in games of chance whenever the opportunity presented itself.
Ruth spent her working career caring for others as a nurse’s assistant at Windsor Nursing Home, exemplifying compassion in every role she embraced. Her warm smile and gentle spirit served as a balm to those around her, embodying the sentiment that true strength comes from love and understanding.
A proud matriarch, she leaves behind her cherished daughters, Dolly Johnson and Donna Robinson-Williams and an abundance of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and an expansive score of other family members and friends.
In the immortal words of wisdom evoked in the Ghana proverb, “Death, for all its power, cannot carry water from the river with a sieve” Now that she has crossed the celestial shores into eternity, she is reunited with her parents and son, Donald Robinson, each who welcomed her to the ancestral table.
In the hearts of many, Ruth will forever remain a beacon of love and hope. As we reflect on her life, we carry forward her legacy of compassion, determination, and the joyous reminder to always smile, even when faced with adversity. We invite all who knew and loved her to join us in this celebration of a remarkable life.
We welcome the community to gather in celebration of Ruth’s extraordinary life. A public viewing will be held at Jaylex Event Center, 2110 Glenwood Ave., in Youngstown, OH, on Monday, December 30, 2024, at 10:00 AM. There will be a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 AM in her honor with Rev. Lewis Macklin officiating. Following the services, Ruth will be laid to rest at Tod Homestead Cemetery with a committal service.
At this time of intimate need and personal loss, the beloved family of Ruth Robinson elected to entrust the Ministry of Comfort & Care, along with Transitional After-Care Arrangements to the J. E. Washington Funeral Services, 2234 Glenwood Ave., Youngstown OH 330.782.8500
