Obituary For Ethel L. Gibbs

With hearts filled with sorrow, yet overflowing with love and gratitude, the family of Ethel L. Gibbs announces her peaceful passing on June 25, 2026. A devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, sister, and friend, Ethel leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and kindness.

Born on March 6, 1954, in Youngstown, Ohio, Ethel was raised by her parents, Reverend Mose Silas Miller and Lauretta (Banks) Miller. She lived a life grounded in faith, compassion, and a deep love for those around her.

Ethel attended South High School, where she met her husband of 53 years, James Gibbs. Their marriage was a beautiful testament to faith, companionship, and commitment. Together, they shared a love that brought joy, strength, and purpose to their lives.

Ethel found joy in life’s simple pleasures: a warm cup of sweet coffee, a crocheting bag filled with yarn, a game of Bid Whist, and watching Jeopardy. More than anything, Ethel cherished time spent with family and friends.

Ethel leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, James Gibbs; three sons, Jajuan Gibbs of Eufaula, Alabama, Jermaine Gibbs of Youngstown, Ohio, and James "Tony" Gibbs (Tanay) of Youngstown, Ohio; siblings, William Miller, Annetta Miller-Moyer, and JoAnn Dixon;

Ehtel’s legacy will be embraced by her grandchildren, Jajuan "Khemet"Booker- Gibbs (Jokayisha), Jinnon Gibbs, Kyrah Gibbs, Malyia Christian (Damon), Macai Gibbs, Maklinley Gibbs, and Laylah Hayes; and her great-grandchildren, Myail and Saint Kash Christian, Isis, Khemet (The Bruce), Reyna, and Kaya. She is also survived by her goddaughter, Sophia Grant, and Sophia's daughters, as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Gregory Miller, nephew William "Shimmie" Miller. Matthew 25:23 affirms, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” May Ethel’s memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved her. In accordance with her articulated wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral services at this time.

At this time of intimate need and personal loss, the family of Ethel L. Gibbs elected to entrust the Ministry of Comfort & Care, along with Transitional After-Care Arrangements to the J. E. Washington Funeral Services, 2234 Glenwood Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio, 330.782.8500.
