Obituary For Eugene J. Spencer

Eugene J. Spencer peacefully departed this life on February 5, 2026, at St. Elizebeth Medical Center in Youngstown Ohio surrounded by loving family just shy of his 81st birthday. Eugene, affectionately known as Jab, was born on February 7, 1947, in Youngstown Ohio to the union of Eugene (Shuggie) Spencer and Florence (Tuda) Jones Spencer.

A proud 1964 graduate of The Rayen School, Eugene enjoyed and excelled in basketball and track and field. He was also a lover of reading and prided himself on being well informed. Eugene married his high school sweetheart the former Pearl Hall and together they had three children- Vickey (Tipsy) Spencer, Joseph (JoJo) Spencer and Darrin (Binky) Spencer.

Venturing beyond high school, Eugene worked in a variety of positions including car salesman, insurance broker and manufacturing sales representative. In 1973 Eugene relocated to Cleveland, Ohio where he worked until retirement, returning to the Youngtown area in 2017.

Eugene leaves to cherish his loving spirit and memory his children - Vickie, Joseph, and Darrin; cousins which were like siblings, Lavern Pattmon, Lonnie M. Jones, Martin Charles Moore and Craig (Sherri) A. Burney, and an aunt JoAnn Reedy, all of Youngstown, along with a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews.

Eugene is proceeded in death by his parents; grandfather Charles Jones; grandmother Wilma (Coleman) Jones; uncles Herman Jones, Charles Jones, Richard Jones, Charles Spencer, and Walter Spencer; aunts Rachell Jones, and Inez (Jones) Beatty.

The Family has planned a private memorial service in his honor but appreciates the kind thoughts, prayers and condolences.
