Obituary For Georgia Ann Minick

Georgia Ann Minick, a beloved daughter of the deep South and a resident of Youngstown, Ohio, departed this life on February 10, 2026, at the age of 85. She was born on October 13, 1940, in the quiet town of Luverne, Alabama situated in Crenshaw County to the union of Johnny Ashley and Freddie Mae (Briggs) Ashley.

Georgia's journey was one marked by grace, resilience, and unwavering love. She attended Woodford High School in LaVerne. Georgia's education extended far beyond the classroom. As a proud woman, she embraced life with an indomitable spirit, navigating the challenges and triumphs that shaped her into a cherished figure in her community. In 1970 she relocated to Long Island, New York, which became her home for 45 years.

Faith was integral to Georgia’s life. She united with Christ Temple Church of God in Christ and served as the president of the Women’s Department ministry. Known for her confectionary delights, she was dubbed the “The Cake & Cookie Lady.” Her mouth-watering pound cakes were legendary.

She became a master of her craft as a dedicated domestic cleaner, self-employed and committed to providing for herself and the homes she cared for. Through her work, she touched many lives, leaving an imprint of kindness and diligence within the walls she polished.

In 2020 Georgia's journey took her to Youngstown, Ohio and she was cared for by her family. She is survived by her beloved niece, Denice Dawson, who was more like a daughter to her, who held a special place in her heart and life. As her primary caregiver, Denice shared laughter, stories, and memories, solidifying the bonds of family that Georgia cherished deeply.

Georgia leaves to celebrate her life siblings Mary Ashley of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Almetha (Otis) Green of Akien, SC, Johnny Pearl Jones of Youngstown, Lucy Pearl of Roosevelt, NY and Eddie Lee Ashley of Youngstown.

She also leaves as stewards of her legacy nephews Jerome Ashley, Fletcher Ashley; Stephanie Ashley, Ashley Bell and Sarah Jackson, Faith Bell, Jackie Ashley, Kim Ford, Evelyn Ford, Justacia Dawson and special niece Riley McGaha who kept Georgia on her feet with a broad smile. Georgia also leaves a cherished network of New York friends which includes Gloria and Pat.

As her faith became sight, she became reunited with the ancestors which includes her parents; siblings Johnny Ashley, Evie Bradley, James Ashley, Calvester Anthony, Clara Mae Youngblood, Lena Mae Menicy, France Salter, Irene Hill, John Ashley Jr., Joe Louis Ashley and a nephew Willie James Ashley whom she helped to raise and nurture.

As we bid farewell to Georgia, let us carry her spirit forward, honoring her memory through acts of kindness and love. On Saturday, February 28, 2026, we will gather to celebrate Georgia's remarkable journey. A 9:00 AM public viewing will take place in the chapel at J E Washington Funeral Home in Youngstown, 2234 Glenwood Avenue. The Celebration of Life service will commence at 10:00 AM, where Rev.
