Gwendolyn, known to many as
Gwen, transitioned from this earthly realm and body to eternal rest on Friday, February 23, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
Gwendolyn was born on September 26, 1955 in Warren, Ohio, to the union of the late Alexander Baker Jr. and Lois (Williams) Baker. She is the second child of four children.
Gwen was a 1973 graduate of Sharon High School. In 1974, she was a press operator and forklift driver at Howell Industries for 29 years until their closure in 2003. While there, she formed several lasting relationships.
She then attended TCTC, where she became a certified phlebotomist and medical assistant from 2003-2005. In September of 2005, she became a correctional officer until she retired in 2016.
She met and fell in love with John J. Bell and he became her husband on August 6, 1983, when she moved to Youngstown, Ohio. With this union, one daughter, Tamara Bell Amison, was born in 1985.
They enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially at cookouts. As a family, John and Gwen attended Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she was active on the usher board and sang in the adult choir.
Gwen was known for her kind heart, wisdom, and infectious laughter. In her younger years, Gwen played softball, roller skated, and liked bike riding.
She was an avid bowler, watching her Boston Celtics basketball team play, and liked singing and dancing. She loved going to bingo and the casino, but what she enjoyed the most was being with her family whom she adored and loved.
Gwen leaves to cherish her memories, her beloved daughter Tamara (Marcus) Bell Amison, granddaughter Avery Amison, brother Mark Baker, niece/daughter Tisa (Brian) Harris, daughter Kelley McGruder and three grandsons: Trinity, Zion and Eden, niece Quaryah Garner, great nephew Vernon Stewart II, great nieces Ma’Kiyah Garner, Danyelle George and Brittany Harris and a host of friends.
Gwen was welcomed into heaven by her parents, her husband John Bell, an only sister, Cheryl Baker Brown, brother Alexander Baker III, nephew Kirk Wheeler, and sister in law Dina Bell.
There will be a public viewing at 2:00pm on Friday, March 1,2024, at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 707 Tabernacle Boulevard, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 3:00pm officiated by Pastor Raymond Austin.
The family of Gwendolyn Bell elected to entrust the Ministry of Comfort and After-Care Arrangements to the J. E. Washington Funeral Services, 2234 Glenwood Ave., Youngstown OH 330.782.8500
