In the heart of Farrell, Pennsylvania, a creative spirit left this world on November 7, 2025. James Harris Sr., born July 15, 1942, to the union of Thomas Harris and Jessie Mae (Ruff) Harris in Warrenton, Georgia, was a master builder of both dreams and tangible things. After 83 years among us, he embarked on his final journey, leaving behind a legacy that will surely endure.

James was not merely a sander at Roemer Industries; he was an artist without a blueprint. With hands that worked wonders, he crafted and restored cars, each line delicately pinstriped to perfection. His home, a canvas of love, bore witness to his dedication. He loved tinkering, constantly busy either mowing the lawn or preparing a delicious meal, always with an impeccably dressed appearance—never without a fedora perched atop his head. There was no half-stepping with James; he brought excellence to all areas of his life.

With loving hands and heart, James would guide his family through life with warmth and wisdom. James adored his beloved wife, Janie R. (Ivey) Harris, sharing 58 years of marriage that were grounded in respect, care, and mutual admiration.

As a father, a teacher, and a mentor, James embraced his role with open arms. He poured his heart into raising his children—James (Erin) E. Harris, James Harris Jr., Eva Thacker, and Edward Ivey—with a discipline that was always tempered by love. His nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren were his pride and joy, their laughter echoing in his heart. To him, they could do no wrong. James also leaves a goddaughter Elaine Taylor and a host of family and friends.

An active member of Valley Baptist Church and a former trustee at Bethlehem Baptist, James embodied the spirit of neighborly kindness and handiwork. Whether as a janitorial overseer or a builder of community, his contributions were felt widely.

As James’ faith became sight, he was reunited with his parents; wife; children Glenda Harris, Willie Ivey; siblings Willie Harris, Tommy Harris, Mattie Harris and May Belle Ruff, each who preceded him into eternity.

The Harris Family will gather to honor his life on Monday, November 17, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Valley Baptist Church, 500 Sharon New Castle Rd, Farrell, with a public viewing. The Celebration of Life Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor T. James Harrison officiating and Rev. Donald “Soupy” Campbell as the celebrant.

After the committal ceremony, James will be laid to rest among the vista of the Morefield Cemetery. As we say farewell to James Harris Sr., we remember a man who filled his life with love, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to family. His spirit will forever inspire us to create, to nurture, and—above all—to love deeply.
