In loving memory of Janiyah Janay Mahone-Winphrie, a beautiful soul that graced this earth, has transitioned to the next chapter of her journey shrouded by the intense love of her family on July 30, 2024, at the main campus of Akron’s Children Hospital.
Janiyah was a young scholar, a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, and friend to many. She was born to the union of Shanice Daniels and Jessie Mahone-Winphrie in Youngstown, OH on December 8, 2010.
Janiyah filled the lives of those around her with joy, kindness, and love. From her early days at HeadStart to her scholastic days at Austintown Middle School, she embraced life, learning and love undauntedly.
An entertainer in her own right, loved singing and dancing. Janiyah never passed up an opportunity to perform whether it was karaoke or creating her own content on tix tok. However, she appreciated the talents of Billie Eilish and Tyler, the Creator.
An avid reader, she enjoyed series such as Junie b Jones, Goosebumps and The Babysitters Club. However, she would also watch Stranger Things to indulge her love of mysteries. She filled her spare time crafting projects.
Family gatherings, events and holidays were always cherished occasions. She enjoyed dining on lamb chops, crab legs and her uncle’s mac & cheese. She also had a fondness of the outdoors and avid lover of nature. Her outgoing personality made volleyball and roller-skating appear to be effortless. Her infectious smile was as colorful as her love of butterflies and unicorns.
Janiyah will forever be remembered for her curious mind and compassionate heart. Janiyah's spirit touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire and comfort those who cherished her.
Janiyah will forever remain in the hearts of her loving mother Shanice Daniels and father Jessie Winphrie. She was a fierce protector, unapologetically loving her siblings Chase Britt, Kashmir Britt, Zaria Mahone-Winphrie, and Jordyn Mahone-Winphrie. She was cherished by her beloved grandmothers Patricia Daniels, Mashell Winphrie and grandfather Jessie Muhammad, along with an expansive score of cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
As Janiyah crossed into eternity, she was welcomed by her grandfather Robert Berry, who preceded her in death.
In the words of Maya Angelou, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Janiyah made everyone she encountered feel loved. Her light will shine, and the warmth of her love will radiate within our hearts forevermore.
The family wishes to express its appreciation to the Akron Children’s Hospital community for the compassionate care render both in Janiyah’s life and in her passing. God will not forget your labor of love for the quality care that was extended.
In celebration of Janiyah's life, a public viewing will take place at the Jaylex Event Center, 2110 Glenwood Ave., Youngstown on Saturday August 17, 2024, at 9:00am. The Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00am with Rev. Lewis W. Macklin II serving as the celebrant.
In honor of Janiyah, a concluding farewell will take place at her final resting place at Belmont Park Cemetery, 3346 Belmont Ave, Youngstown, OH, where butterflies will be released to symbol that Janiyah’s spirit is not confined to the earth but soars effortlessly among the heavens.
At this most intimate time, the beloved family of this precious angel, Janiyah Janay Mahone-Winphrie, elected to entrust the Ministry of Comfort & Care and After-Care Arrangements to the J. E. Washington Funeral Services, 2234 Glenwood Ave., Youngstown OH 330.782.8500.

I remember when she she would come over in the morning before school. So,her Mom could go to work.She was such a sweet girl. Everytime I would see her she had a big smile. We will miss you sweetie. She was also such a great big sister.
