With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joyce Lee Jones on August 12, 2025. Born on June 21, 1948, the daughter of Mary Lee Colhoun-Wilson and Hillard Taylor, in the small town of Attapulgus, Georgia, Joyce was a beacon of resilience. She found her true home in Youngstown, Ohio, where she lived a life enriched by love, laughter, and her unwavering dedication.
Joyce, a proud graduate of the Rayen School, was more than a proficient accountant; she was an architect of dreams, crafting a legacy through her sustaining self-employment endeavors. With an associate’s degree in hand from Penn College, she navigated the world of business with grace and determination. She continued her academic pursuits at Youngstown State University in business administration.
Her infectious spirit extended far beyond numbers and ledgers; Joyce was also an amazing seamstress that expertly used woven fabric for special occasions touching the tapestry of the hearts of those she blessed. Joyce was a crafter who enjoyed bargain shopping. She was skillful in the arts of negotiating and bartering. An outside observer would consider Joyce’s love language as guff, but within her short frame was a huge and generous heart.
Joyce's familial legacy will be sustained by her son, Bobby L. "Petie" Jones Jr. and six grandchildren, along with goddaughters Kim and Patrice, and James & Wanda Washington as extended family members. Each moment spent with family and friends were cherished threads in the tapestry of her life.
As Joyce entered eternity, she was reunited with her parents, son Cortland L. Jones, daughter Mary A. Jones, brother Bobby Taylor, grandmother Annie Queen Talyor and grandfather Horce Taylor.
As we gather to celebrate her life, let us remember Joyce not with sorrow, but with gratitude for the love and light she brought to our lives. Joyce's family invites friends and loved ones to join them in honoring her memory. A public viewing will take place in the chapel of Tod Homestead Cemetery, 2200 Belmont Ave, on Saturday August 16, 2025, beginning at 9:00 am, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 10:00 am with Rev. Lewis Macklin as the celebrant.
After a committal ceremony, interment will follow, as Joyce is laid to rest among her ancestors on the serene grounds. Her spirit will forever remain a guiding star in our hearts, reminding us to cherish each precious moment and to hold our loved ones close.
At this time of intimate need and personal loss, the family of Joyce Lee Jones elected to entrust the Ministry of Comfort & Care, along with Transitional After-Care Arrangements to the J. E. Washington Funeral Services, 2234 Glenwood Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio, 330.782.8500.
