It is with deep sorrow, yet with great peace, to announce the passing of Kenneth Terry Miller Jr., born, the son of Barbara Harvey-Miller and Kenneth Miller Sr., on April 11, 1957, in Youngstown, Ohio, who entered eternity on December 17, 2024. Although a proud native of Youngstown’s east side, Kenneth ultimately made his home in Akron.
After attending East High School, went on to nobly serve our country. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Kenneth epitomized the values of service and commitment, displaying an unwavering dedication to his work and family. Upon completion of his military service, Kenneth became a dedicated employee with a distinguished career at CSX Railroad, where his contributions to the transportation and rail system industry were highly regarded.
Kenneth’s journey was marked by resilience and strength, especially in his efforts to maintain sobriety through the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous, the 12-Step recovery program that supports people struggling with alcohol misuse and addiction. His staunch commitment was exemplified where he espoused the tenets of AA values even amidst the challenges he faced, including the decision to decline pain medication during his palliative care treatment to honor his commitment to a sober life until the end.
Kenneth is survived by his beloved mother, Barbara Miller; his devoted sisters, Faye (Anthony Hightower) Miller, Deitra (Talmadge) Jackson, Maryam “Stephanie” (Abdulraheem a.k.a Randall) Kitchen and Romunda Lee Taylor who will forever cherish his memory and the indelible impact he had on their lives. Kenny also shared cherished relationships with his bonus children Lawrence “Chipper” Ross, Nikki Ross and Carletta Jones and an uncle Carl Vaughn.
Seven grandchildren, namely Kenneth “Man” Miller IV, Kentairrah Miller, Kendall Miller, Keniceia Miller, Kemmone Miller, Kendra Miller, Keosha Miller along with several bonus grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and an abundance of nieces, nephews, family and friends will keep Kenneth’s legacy vibrant.
As Kenneth crossed the celestial sands into eternity, he joins the elders at the ancestral table which includes his beloved father Kenneth Miller Sr., his son Kenneth Miller III, sister Denise Kim Miller, maternal grandparents Gurtha Mae Harvey Hudson and Jack Harvey, paternal grandparents Gussie Tarver Miller and Charlie Miller, aunts Charlette Miller and Henrietta Vaughn and uncles Robert Miller, Clarence Miller and Wayne Jones, all who preceded him in death.
As we gather to remember Kenneth, we invite all who knew him to join in this moment of reverence, compassion, and remembrance of a life lived with courage and purpose. His spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those he touched, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
