In celebration of a life well-lived, we gather to honor the memory of Lula Delois Cody who was born on December 10, 1929, in the heart of Long Creek within Georgiana, AL to the union of Albert and Annie Grisset. After a life that was well lived and loved Lula, affectionately known to many as Lula D, transitioned from this life into eternity on Saturday, July 20, 2024, on the Youngstown campus of Mercy Health Care.
Though her formal education journey ended after her high school days within the public school system in Alabama, Lula remained a lifelong learner. She found solace in the words of books, often lost in her favorite reads or immersed in the challenge of word search puzzles. Lula also loved to express herself in writing.
A loving and devoted homemaker, Lula exemplified the strength and grace that resonated within her family and community. She poured her heart into creating a haven for her loved ones, always embracing them with open arms and a generous spirit. Her love language was the comforting aroma of homemade meals, a gesture that spoke volumes of her nurturing nature.
As we reflected upon her enduring legacy, we remember Lula's infectious sense of humor and fun-loving spirit that brightened the darkest days. Her embrace of laughter and love will forever be engraved in the memories of those she touched. Her quick wit and humor brought joy to those around her, infusing every gathering with laughter and light-hearted moments.
Lula professed her faith with unwavering devotion, finding solace in her personal relationship with her Lord and Savior. In all her actions, she embodied the teachings of kindness, compassion, and selflessness, leaving a lasting impact on all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Having navigated the journey of life with faith as her guiding light, Lula's love for those she loved knew no bounds. She was a beacon of love and hope for her family, as a loving mother to her three daughters Grace Cody of Detroit, MI, Carol Lee of Fayetteville, NC and Shelia Darby of Gainesville FL and the cherished sister to Mamie (Matthew) Pritchett and sister in love to Ronell Carter of Youngstown, OH.
Lulaโs legacy will endure and radiate through her seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren, two devoted nieces Betty Whitfield and Roshell Carter, along with a special friend, Tammy Morgan. Lula will be fondly remembered by the residents and staff of Norton Manor and Maplecrest Nursing Home, along with a cadre of cousins, relatives and friends.
Never alone in life or death, as Lula crossed the celestial sands into eternity, she was greeted by her parents, and six siblings Leroy Hicks, Nathaniel Grissett, Wilson Adams, L C Adams, Clara Wagner and Fairy Carter and three grandchildren Steve Darby, Kinnetha Lee, and Teresa Darby.
As we prepare to bid farewell to our beloved Lula, we reflect on the timeless memories she gifted us with. The community is invited to join the family for a public viewing on Saturday July 27, 2024, at 9:00 am in the chapel of the J. E. Washington Funeral Services, 2234 Glenwood Avenue. A Celebration of Life ceremony in her honor will take place at 10:00 am with Delbert Fails serving as the celebrant.
In the embrace of her family and friends, Lula will be laid to rest with a committal service at Tod Homestead Cemetery. Lulaโs vibrant presence and kind-hearted nature will be dearly missed, yet her legacy will live on through her family, who will continue to honor her memory with love and gratitude.
At this most intimate time, the beloved family of Lula D. Cody elected to entrust the Ministry of Comfort & Care and After-Care Arrangements to the J. E. Washington Funeral Services, 2234 Glenwood Ave., Youngstown OH 330.782.8500
