It is with sadness of hearts to publicly announce the passing of Marvin L. Spivey Sr., a beloved father, cherished brother, loyal friend and respected mechanic. A lifelong resident of Youngstown OH Marvin, was born on April 27, 1962, to the union Thomas Sr. and Slyvia Carter-Spivey as the youngest of four siblings.
On September 16, 2024, at his residence, Marvin quietly and unexpectedly left us. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, hard work, and a deep love for his family. Though he may be physically gone, the impact he made on those around him will never be forgotten.
Marvin attended the former North High School and was naturally skillful in automotive repair. His passion for fixing things and an uncanny knack for problem-solving led him to a successful career as a mechanic. Marvin spent his days fixing cars and anything with a motor honing his expertise in the field.
Marvin poured his heart and soul into his work in the automotive repair industry, leaving a lasting impact on all who he served through the years. His commitment to his craft and dedication to ensuring everything ran smoothly was unmatched.
Seldom without a tool in hand, he was affectionately known as “Marv the Mechanic”. He was employed with various companies but found great success building his reputation as a self-employed agent. The only problem Marvin regularly encountered was his quest to find his 10-mil wrench!
Marvin’s loving and down-to-earth energy was appreciated by all who knew him and met him. When he did not have a tool in hard or working on an engine, it was a fishing rod! He enjoyed fishing at Mosquito Lake or Lake Erie.
It was no secret that Marvin was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. With his terrible towel in hand, Marvin would champion his beloved team, chanting “Black & Yellow” with pride.
Marvin's spirit will live on in the memories he created and the lives he touched. Marvin will be dearly missed by partner and companion Kimberly Weaver. Marvin expressed loyalty and devotion, which was demonstratively shown, proven and felt.
Marvin's absence will be keenly felt among those who knew and loved him best. Marvin ‘s greatest accomplishments were his children, Marvin Jr., Deon, Wyke’ia and Quincy along with raising and loving Gregory, Jason and DeAndre as his own.
Marvin was also proud Pa-Pa to his grandchildren Amarius Wesley, Derrick Darrington and Raylin Darrington of Youngstown Ohio. He was considered the marvelous and magnificent Uncle Marv to Thomas, Keisha, John and Quinton. His legacy of hard work, dedication, and compassion will live on as a guiding light for his family and friends.
Marvin also leaves cherished memories with his brother Thomas Spivey Jr, and bonus siblings Chris Sharp, Derrick Sharp, Curtis Jackson, Tyrone Sharp, James Starks and Pamela Sharp. His memory will be forever treasured by a score of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
Now assuming his place among the ancestors, Marvin crossed into eternity joining his beloved parents and treasured sisters Tommie Lou Harden, Arthara Barksdale, all of whom predeceased him.
In the rhythm of this life, Marvin swayed with passion and purpose, paving his own path with unyielding dedication. Though his song may have reached its final note, his melody lingers on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of sharing life's public stage with him.
The community is invited to share with the family on Friday, September 27, 2024, at the Jaylex Center, 2210 Glenwood Ave., for the public viewing at 11:00am. A Celebration of Life Service to honor Marvin's life will be held at 12:00 pm. with Rev. Lewis W. Macklin II presiding as the celebrant.
