In the heart of Boardman, Ohio, a light was dimmed when Montrell Montain Gilbert, born on August 7, 1980, departed this life on March 7, 2026. A spirit full of potential and resilience, Montrell embraced the trials of life in his journey through its highs and lows. He walked the challenging path of restorative justice and found purpose in his assignments, seeking to transform himself amidst the complexities of his surroundings.
His journey was not without adversity, but the love of his family and friends painted the landscape of his life with warmth and compassion. He enjoyed playing chess and worked at Dearings Compression and Pump company.
Montrell leaves behind those who cherished him dearly: his devoted mother, Marilyn Gilbert-Williams; father, Charles Clark; wife, Donsha Gilbert; daughters Realtee Willis, St. Paul MN, Ishia Gilbert, Youngstown; sons Messiah Evans Gilbert, Harllem Townsend, PA and Doneco Plentyhorse, St. Paul MN; sister Lakeysha Gilbert; brothers, Mark Harris, Tavarus Conley, Charles Gilbert and Desmond Gilbert.
Let us remember Montrell, a life woven within the fabric of family and community - a spirit that will endure beyond the silence of his absence. On Tuesday April 7, 2026, a public viewing will be held to honor Montrell's legacy in the chapel of the J E Washington Funeral Home, 2234 Glenwood Ave., in Youngstown, from 10:00 -11:00 AM, concluding with a committal ceremony performed by Rev. Lewis Macklin.
As the sun sets, Montrell will find his rest at his final resting place at the Belmont Park Cemetery, a symbolic return to the earth he called home. Though his life was cut short by circumstance, he will be forever remembered for the spirit he embodied: one that sought redemption, connection, and the essence of love.
At this time of intimate need and personal loss, the family of Montrell Montain Gilbert elected to entrust the Ministry of Comfort & Care, along with Transitional After-Care Arrangements to the J. E. Washington Funeral Services, 2234 Glenwood Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio, 330.782.8500.
