Obituary For Najeebah A. Muhammad-Butler
In the embrace of the warm Ohio sun, on April 27, 1968, a beautiful soul named Najeebah A. Muhammad-Butler came into this world in Warren, OH born to the union of Mutaal Muhammad Sr. and Arifah Muhammad. On June 8, 2024, Najeebah peacefully transitioned from this earthly realm, leaving behind cherished memories and a profound impact on those she encountered.
Najeebah was a proud alumna of the Rayen School and was a member of the Popular Demand Class of 87. Athletic, she played junior varsity basketball, volleyball and track during her scholastic experience. She continued her academic and scholarly pursuits at State University of West Georgia in leadership and supervision and applied studies in criminal justice at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Najeebah took pride in herself and all that she put her heart and hands into. Yet her humility made all feel welcomed in her presence. She encouraged others to pursue their dreams and passions with all deliberate speed. Genuine, transparent and authentic are adjectives that best describe her interactions with others. She would articulate her thoughts and would engage in respectful discourse. She loved shades of pink and purples with represents warmth, passion and positivity which reflect her kind and generous heart. Always helpful, her smile and laughter were contagious, filling an area with positivity.
By profession and passion, Najeebah was a certified community health care and social worker; she was a proud member of the National Association of Social Workers. She served as a behavioral specialist with the Family Ties. She then became a social service specialist & lead worker for the Clayton County Department of Family & Children Services and was promoted to social service supervisor in the resource department. She was also a notary of the public and officer of the court.
Najeebah was recognized for her community and civic engagement. She received acknowledgement of her work by the State of Georgia Department of Human Services’ Advocate Award in 2013, Board Chair of the Clayton County Mental Health, certification for child abuse prevention. A trainer by passion and profession, she was credentialed as a CPS trainer, FTM trainer and IMPACT trainer. She mentored staff in addressing matters such as HIPAA, domestic violence, sexual abuse and faith care.
In 2017, Najeebah returned to the Mahoning Valley and was integral to Alta Behavioral Healthcare agency working as a certified community health worker. She co-founded the Baby Bump Program at Alta Behavioral Healthcare which specializes in programming for pregnant women to establish healthy lifestyles for healthy pregnancies to insure outcomes of healthy babies.
Najeebah was an active participant of the American Pool Association and its Northeast Ohio League. She served as captain of the Eight Ball Pool Team and also played Nine Ball, which are games of billiards. It cannot be emphasized enough regarding her love and loyalty for the Pittsburgh Steelers Football team. She was a die-hard and avid supporter of the “Black & Yellow!”
Najeebah leaves to cherish her memory, her mother Arifah Muhammad; brothers Omar (Nicole) Muhammad and Mutaal (Anaesha) Muhammad Jr., and sisters Carmen Jones and Chevonne (Aaron) Parks-Williams.
To uphold her enduring legacy, Najeebah leaves a score of nieces and nephews, which include a special niece Tariya Scott who was always at her side, and a host of additional relatives and friends.
Najeebah had an unquestionable love for God and an unshakeable faith in Him. She completed a good work in the earth and is now seated among the ancestors. As she entered paradise, she was welcomed by her father Mutaal Muhammad and brother Abdul Muhammad, grandparents Johnny Jenkins and Bessie L. Hurd Folmar-Jenkin, all who preceded her into eternity.
The public is invited to the public viewing and family visitation at the Jaylex Event Center, 2110 Glenwood Ave. on Monday, June 17, at 10:00 AM. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 11:00 AM where Rev. Lewis Macklin will serve as the celebrant.
Following the committal services, Najeebah will be laid to rest alongside her father and brother at Tod Homestead Cemetery in Youngstown, OH. She was a beacon of light in our community, using her knowledge and empathy to uplift those in need. Her legacy as a caring and selfless individual will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her. With a heart full of compassion and a spirit as bright as the stars, Najeebah touch will continue to bless generations to come.
To honor Najeebah’s legacy, it is the request of the family to direct all material tributes and contributions in her memory to the Baby Bump Program she co-founded at Alta Behavioral Healthcare, 711 Belmont Ave, Youngstown, Oh 44502.
