With deep sorrow and profound loss, we bid farewell to the esteemed Pauline Phillips, a gracious soul whose light shone brightly among us. She was born on November 29, 1949, in Youngstown, OH, to the union of Lillian Baker and Martin Walker. She earned the nickname “Button” early on to denote her cuteness as a baby.
A woman of immeasurable grace, Pauline was known for her unwavering dedication to serving others. Her impact extended beyond her professional and civic endeavors, as she wholeheartedly embraced her roles as a mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Pauline's journey came to peaceful completion on September 14, 2024, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Passavant campus.
A trailblazer in her community, Pauline's dedication to public service and advocacy were exemplified by her historic run for city council, marking a milestone as the first African American female candidate in Farrell.
A woman with an abiding faith in God, she attended New Beginning Christian Fellowship. She lived out her faith in service to humanity. Her work with various committees, boards, and organizations, such as the NAACP Youth division, left an indelible mark on the lives she touched.
Professionally she utilized the skills obtained from her associates degree in the healthcare field as a medical secretary at Overlook Nursing & Rehabilitation Facility.
Pauline's talents extended to the realm of creative expression, from her prowess in floral arrangements to her work as a wedding planner, seamstress, and event coordinator. Her eye for opulence and her flair for design brought joy to countless celebrations and gatherings.
Her dining room was a sanctuary of hospitality and grace, a testament to her refined taste and welcoming spirit. This room was always set and “presentation ready” as she appreciated refined and elegance as a gracious hostess.
In her spare moments, Pauline found solace in the simple pleasures of life—enjoying tea and coffee, caring for others, exploring new horizons through travel, and savoring the company of her loved ones.
A prominent force of infectious and nurturing energy at the Zion Education Program, its Gigi Program was named after Pauline. A lover of nature and community, she also played an integral role in the growth of Southwest Gardens. Those who knew this woman of self-determination had a respect and appreciation her wise counsel which she conveyed in an encouraging and non-judgmental manner.
The love and devotion Pauline bestowed upon her family knew no bounds, as she adored her son, Anthony (A’Lishia) Phillips, and cherished her father, Martin (Pearl) Walker. Pauline will be lovingly and fondly remembered by her siblings Ann (Gerald) Foster, Gail McGeorge, Lillie Rodgers, Kent (Pat) Washington, LaTanya (Fermal) Simpson, and Ross (Belinda) Baker.
The honor upholding her enduring legacy is bestowed upon her grandchildren Andrianna Phillip, Jodeci Phillips, Toni Jana Phillips, Tahtianna Phillips, Angelique Naples and Anthony Phillips Jr., as well as her great grandchildren Lucious Payton, Naziah Wheeler, Maya Shaheed, Khalia Shaheed, Ju’Ell Pannell, Giuliana Naples and Aidan Vargas.
Pauline also leaves two nephews Patrick Thomas and Phillip Thomas whom she helped to rear, her aunt Frances North and an expansive score of relatives and friends who she loved dearly.
Though divorced, Pauline maintained a cordial friendship with Charles Phillips, embodying a spirit of graciousness and camaraderie that touched all who knew her. Pauline also forged a special relationship with a young lady, Trinity Moore, who affectionately called her Gigi.
These wonderful relationships reflect Pauline’s congenial nature, wisdom, and unyielding determination to inspire those around her, leaving an example of compassion and selflessness.
Now among the ancestors, Pauline was welcomed as she crossed into eternity by her mother Lillian Baker, bonus father Edward Baker, brothers Martin Walker, Jr, Michael Walker, Martin "Manny" Walker III and Lloyd Washington; sisters Patricia Thomas and Martinette "Peaches" Walker and her brother-in-love Emmitt “Fat Cat” McGeorge,
May Pauline rest in eternal peace, her essence forever radiant in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Let us carry her legacy in our hearts and minds, cherishing the moments shared with a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many with her compassion and kindness.
