A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered! Ruth Alford-Pickett, the third of 6 children, was born June 15, 1931, in Aliquippa, PA, to the union of Clarence and Lonie Alford. On April 10, 2024, at the age of 92. Ruth answered the call to be at rest with the Lord.
Ruth was educated in the Aliquippa school district. Although she loved the community of Aliquippa, she met and married George Pickett on December 24, 1952, and they relocated to Farrell, PA where they established a home. This union, forged in love, was solid for SEVENTY-ONE YEARS! This union brought forth two children, Bill Pickett and Javerna Pickett Chapman.
Ruth's love for God was reflected in her life and she joined the Ruth AME Zion Church, where she sang in the choir, served on the Nurses Guild, Willing Workers Club and was also the unofficial photographer for the church.
For many years, Ruth was employed by Farrell Head Start Program. She was also known as the local "Block Mom" to the kids at the playground which was adjacent to her home on Emerson Avenue in Farrell.
She leaves cherished and precious memories with her husband & soul mate, George C. Pickett of Meadville, PA, her son William “Bill” Pickett of Conneaut, OH, her daughter Javerna Pickett-Chapman of Jonesboro, GA, her former daughter-in-law Jonita Simmers of Sharon, PA her grandchildren Aaron “Mikey” Evans & wife Alicia (Youngstown, Ohio), D'Ondrea Ruth Pickett (Sharon, PA) and Ja'Nyce “Noelle” Pickett (Youngstown, Ohio) along with a cadre of nieces, nephews and friends that are like family.
She now assumes her place among the ancestors and was welcomed at Heaven’s gate by her parents and five siblings Lois Alford-Alexander, Doris Alford- Wesley, Henry Alford, Robert Alford and Len Alford.
A special message from Ruth: I would like to be remembered for my loving & caring spirit that enveloped everyone with smiles and laughter.
To honor her life’s enduring legacy of love, you are invited to gather with the family for the 10:00am viewing and visitation on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Ruth African Methodist Episcopal Church, 95 West Connelly Blvd, Sharon PA. The Celebration of Life services will begin at 11:00 am and will be officiated by Rev. Marion G. Wheeler Jr.
Ruth was a beacon of love, hope and strength, and she will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will be cherished by all who were blessed to know her.
