Thomas Baldwin Sr., affectionately known as Mr. B, was born November 25, 1929, in Vinton, Virginia, to the union of Willie and Maebel Pratt Baldwin. He was reared and nurtured in Roanoke, Virginia. On Monday, October 27, 2025, surrounded by his family, he gained his heavenly wings as he heard the Savior say, “Enter, my good & faithful servant!”
Mr. Baldwin attended Carver High School of Roanoke. He married his soul mate, the former Priscilla Jean Moorman, and they moved to Youngstown, Ohio in 1948 for employment opportunities. Mr. Baldwin to work at US Steel Corp Youngstown Works until he retired after 30 years of service.
Life for Mr. Baldwin was woven with the fabric of hard work and enduring love. He served as a profound testament to resilience and dedication. His commitment to God, family and community, shaped the lives of those around him. His tireless spirit and unwavering strength made a lasting impression on all who had the honor of knowing him.
He was a very faithful and dedicated member of New Bethel Baptist Church who literally held the lock and keys with more than fifty-one plus years of service under the shared leadership of Pastors Lonnie Kwajo Asim & Kenneth L. Simon. A respected community father figure and mentor to many, he was awarded Father of the Year on several occasions at the ministry. He was actively engaged and participated in various ministries including the male chorus, usher ministry, van driver, security team and lead church janitor until his health no longer permitted him.
He was featured in The Youngstown Vindicator at his home for his walls full of photos dating back when he was in his teens and beyond. He was proud of everyone who entered his home and was able to take a walk down memory lane from his walls of hundreds of photos!
Mr. Baldwin continued to live in his own home with care from his devoted children and the staff of Real Loving Care Home Care. He was briefly staying at Shepherd of The Valley Nursing Home for rehabilitation.
Mr. Baldwin leaves to cherish loving memories with his children: Betty Moten of Pasadena CA, Joseph “Jody” (Kim) Baldwin, Priscilla Baldwin Colbert & Alice Baldwin all of Youngstown, OH.
His enduring legacy is entrusted to his seventeen Grandchildren: Steve Wilson, Rob Wilson, Kishma Croft, Marcus Baldwin, Theresa Fields, Kimani Croft, Sirob Baldwin, Danielle Franklin, Justin Patterson, LaShaunda Franklin, Juawana Colbert, Jermaine Baldwin, LaTasha Newman, Morgan Moten, Micalise Johnson, Special Clemons and Ketuan Baldwin whom he helped rear.
Further emboldening his heritage are thirty great grandchildren, eighteen great great-grandchildren and a massive score of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Each carry with them cherished memories and invaluable lessons learned from their father/grandfather, whose laughter and wisdom will echo in their hearts forever.
Welcoming him to his heavenly home, his parents, beloved wife of thirty-five years Priscilla Moorman Baldwin, their children Janice Patterson Wilson, Thomas Baldwin Jr., William Bill Baldwin & Judy Ann Franklin; grandchildren Baby Shawn Wilson, Kendrick Baldwin & Barry Jake Baldwi; great Grandson, Arthur Ty Mitchell. As we reflect upon the impact of his life, we find solace in each shared memory and every moment exchanged. Thomas Baldwin Sr. will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered as a man who embodied strength, love, and unwavering faith.
The Balwin Family invites the community to a public viewing on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM, to be held at the New Bethel Baptist Church, 1507 Hillman Street. Together, we will celebrate the profound life of Thomas Baldwin Sr. and honor the remarkable legacy he leaves behind. The Celebration of Life service will begin at 11:00 AM with Pastor Kenneth L. Simon officiating. After the committal ceremony, Mr. Baldwin will be laid to rest in the peaceful vista of Tod Homestead Cemetery, 2200 Belmont Ave, Youngstown, OH.
