The family of Veronica Sanders celebrates the life and legacy of a vibrant and talented soul who graced us with her presence. As a beacon of strength and unwavering love, her journey on this earth began on December 20, 1955, in Youngstown, OH and on April 1, 2024, she reached her destination.

Veronica, affectionately known as Aunt Roni and Twin, was a pillar of wisdom and unconditional love. Her spirit of giving and unwavering support for her family shone brightly as she nurtured the bonds which held them together. Her devotion to her entire family, especially her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter were without bounds, and their lives were touched by the light of her affection.

Veronica, a woman of many talents, graced this world with her presence as a dedicated employee at the Community Corrections Association until her retirement. She shared her passion for the culinary arts professionally and personally. Her culinary skills were unmatched, with her deviled eggs, peach cobbler, and mac & cheese being family favorites.

Born with a spirit as vibrant as her favorite color, purple, she navigated life's challenges with grace and resilience, always offering a kind and generous hand to all who crossed her path. She had uncanny wisdom and often remarked “Life has its crisses and crosses, as well as its ups and its downs" as a reflection of the delicate balance of life and living.

Veronica was immensely proud of the military service rendered by each of her offspring. Her life was a tapestry woven with profound love for her family, whose names are a testament to the legacy she leaves behind. She treasured her family dearly, finding solace in both their presence and memories created together. Veronica found joy in sewing, baking, crafting, and trying her luck with her favorite numbers in lotto and scratch-offs.

Her beautiful legacy is embraced by her husband Raymond Sanders Sr., children Maxine (Ruben) Jackson, Raymond (Fanta King) Sanders Jr., Shawn Grace; granddaughters Nydia Peace, Charmaine Carlisle, Makayla Sanders, grandsons Devante Davis, Dillyn Sanders, Jayden Sanders, and great granddaughter Sol Naomi.

Precious memories and treasured reflections will be cherished by her brother Squire Cross Jr., and sisters Eliza Warren, Maxine Scott, Matosha Cross, Valaria Cross, Cynthia O’Neal, and Robbin Cross. She also leaves longtime friends, Paul Grace, Tonya Sanders, and Shaneika Carlisle along with a massive score of family and friends.

Veronica assumes her place among the ancestors as she was lovingly greeted by her parents Squire Cross Sr., & Manolia Griggs-Cross, and sister Mary Forest who all preceded her in obtaining eternal peace.

As we prepare to honor her life, you may pay your respects at the Jaylex Event Center, 2110 Glenwood Ave., on Monday April 8, 2024, at 10 am for viewing and family visitation. In appreciation of her favorite color, you are welcome to wear a touch of any shade of purple to display a visible tribute. Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 am with Rev. Lewis W. Macklin II serving as the celebrant. The services will be livestreamed on the Facebook page of the J. E. Washington Funeral Services.

After the committal services, Veronica will be laid to rest at the Belmont Park Cemetery with a burial that symbolizes the love and reverence held for her. In the tapestry of life, Veronica's thread shall forever remain as a testament to her enduring spirit and the love she so generously shared with us all.
