Obituary His Birth Rev. Louis James Mayweather, Jr. (L.J.), 74, of Mansfield, LA, was the first born of Rev. L. J., Sr. and Elise Mayweather born October 27, 1945. His Church L. J. confessed Christ at an early age was baptized at Zion Hill #1 Missionary Baptist Church. After years of dedication, he served in many capacities of his church. He served his church faithfully and dutifully. His School Days He attended and graduated from DeSoto Parish School system in 1963. His Marriage and Fatherhood L. J. met and married the love of his life Rosie Mae Ross on June 13, 1965. They were blessed with three (3) wonderful children. His Dedication to God L. J. was a true example of a servant leader, “Because of his longevity and steadfast leadership, his impact will be felt for years to come. Our lives are richer for having known him.” L. J. began preaching in 2008. He served his member with compassion and love. He was a true servant for Jesus Christ. His favorite scripture was Psalm 121:1: “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.” His lifestyle illuminated Jesus Christ by serving the community and making a difference in so many lives. He was the Pastor of Elizabeth Baptist Church (Pleasant Hill), Old Zion Baptist Church (Grand Cane) and Morning Glory Baptist Church (Mansfield). He enjoyed singing and playing the guitar. He sung and played the guitar for many years with the Spiritual Wonders and The Chosen Gospel Singers. His Civics Affiliation L. J. was a DeSoto Parish School Board member for nearly forty (40) years. He served District 11; he was serving his seventh term. He was a member of Masonic Beacon Light Lodge #110. He was a former Worship Master. He was involved in a number of civic and community organizations and activities. His Employment L. J. worked for many years at Nabors Trailers of Mansfield. When Nabors closed, he was employed by Beard Inc. of Shreveport. He also worked part time for Fred’s Pharmacy. His Departure L. J. transitioned from this life on April 7, 2020 at DeSoto Regional Medical Center following a very brief illness. He is preceded in death by his parents; Rev. L. J., Sr. & Elise Mayweather, and his eldest son Louis James Mayweather, III. His Family L. J. leaves to cherish his memories, a loving devoted wife of 54 years, children, Jarrow (Liz) Mayweather, (Nacogdoches, TX); and Sharrow (Troy) Robertson, (Tomball, TX); 2 sisters, Velma (McKinnery) Paul, (Houston, TX); Billie Faye Alexander (Marksville, LA); 2 brothers; L. C. (Rosie) Mayweather (Mansfield, LA), and Leon (Lillia) Mayweather (Houston, TX); 12 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 4 sisters-in-laws; Bettye Woodley (Pelican, LA), Julia Jones (Mansfield, LA), Annie Ross & Marie Hudson (Shreveport, LA) 1 brother-in-law, Rev. Eddie Dean Ross (Keithville, LA) a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, church family and friends.
Absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. This is what we are looking forward too. God understand the pain and grief felt by all. Look unto the hills which cometh your help.
