TYLER--Funeral services for James Bell, 79, are scheduled for 11 am, Saturday, June 27, 2026 at New Zion Baptist Church/Winona with Dr. S.L. Curry, eulogist. Burial will be in the Kay Cemetery in Winona under direction of John R. Harmon Undertaking Company.
Mr. Bell was born October 12, 1946 in Smith County to the late George Bell and Laura Mae Arps. He transitioned on June 15, 2026 at U.T. Health East Texas.
Mr. Bell was a graduate of Winona High School Class of 1965. He was a member of New Zion Baptist Church where he was a member of the Male Chorus. Mr. Bell was the owner and operator of Shorty Bell Trucking Company.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by sixt siblings and one great grandchild. He is survived by his spouse: Jocelyn Bell of Tyler, daughter Schuyler Bell of Carrollton, sons: James Young of Tyler, Kendrick Bell of Desoto, Marcus Bell of Winona, sisters: Joann Hampton (Larry), Evelyn Roberts of Winona, Diane Mack of Virginia, brothers: Charlie Arps (Lynell) of Dallas, Donial Arps (Drunita) of Winona, Mike Arps (Tina) of Winona, Jerrie Arps of Winona, Stephant Arps (Trena) of Tyler and Willie Arps of Winona and host of grand and great grand children, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Public viewing will be Friday, June 26 from 2 pm to 8 pm at the funeral home.
