Tribute to a Beloved Aunt, Friend, and Neighbor
Today, we honor and remember a woman who was so much more than a neighbor, and far more than my mother's best friend. She was family. She was an aunt in every way that truly matters.
For as long as I can remember, she was there—right next door, yet always close to our hearts. Her presence was constant, steady, and comforting. She watched me grow, celebrated milestones, offered wisdom when I didn't even realize I needed it, and loved me as her own. Some people come into our lives for a season; she was part of the foundation.
She shared a bond with my mother that went beyond friendship. They laughed together, leaned on one another, exchanged romance novels and walked through life side by side. Their friendship was a beautiful example of loyalty, sisterhood, and unconditional love. Through that friendship, she became woven into the fabric of our family.
As a neighbor, she made our community feel like family. As an aunt, she made me feel seen, protected, and cherished. And as a woman of character, she left an imprint on everyone who knew her—through her kindness, her strength, her generosity, and her quiet faith.
Juanita showed us that family is not only who you are born to, but who you choose to love and stand beside. Her life reminds us that presence matters, consistency matters, and love lived out daily is a powerful legacy.
Though she may no longer live next door, her spirit will forever live in our memories, in our laughter, and in the stories we will continue to tell. We are better because she was part of our lives.
We thank God for the gift of her life, for the years we shared, and for the love that will never leave us.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." – Matthew 25:23
