Willie Arthur Cosby was born on July 9, 1944 in Madison Georgia to the late Elgie Cosby and Nonie Bell Heard Cosby.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Madison Georgia. He attended Pearl High School and the Valedictorian for his graduating class. After graduating he then joined the United States Air Force and bravely served his country, completing two tours in Vietnam. He also attended the University of Arizona and Dekalb College.
Upon the completion of his military service he married Betty A. Folds (Nealy) of Madison Georgia and through this union he became the proud father of one son, Duane H. Cosby whom he loved with all of his heart. Duane was indeed the light of his father's life. Through the next chapter in Willie's life he met and married Ruth A. Hicks (Cosby), and began their life journey together. Willie Arthur was a devoted husband and father. Willie Arthur was a hard worker all of his life and was an entrepreneur who owned three successful coin laundries, Washing World, as well as a commercial cleaning service for many years. He was also happily employed with the HUD Housing Authority and retired from the United States Postal Service.
On Wednesday morning, July 15, 2015, Willie Arthur Cosby was called home to be with the Lord. Three of his siblings preceded him in death, Ms. Ethel K. Barksdale, Mr. Osiola Cosby and Ms. Sharon Brito. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted and loving wife Mrs. Ruth A. Cosby, Stone Mountain (GA), His son, Mr. Duane H. Cosby, (Mrs. Julie N. Cosby), Decatur GA, His step daughter, Mrs. Valerie Spivey, (Mr. Sherrod Spivey), Stone Mountain GA. His sisters, Mrs. Christine Hall, (Mr. Willie Albert Hall), Decatur GA, Mrs. Betty Hall, (Mr. Curtis Hall), Indianapolis, lN, Mrs. Lucinda Griffin, (Mr. Earlie Griffin), San Antonio TX, Ms. Annie Laura Davis, Eatonton, GA, Mrs. Thelma Owens, (Mr. Andrew Owens), Americus GA and his brother, Mr. Obie James Cosby, Decatur, GA. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Harrison D. Cosby, Morgan N. Cosby, Isaiah Spivey and Asia Washington. His love will be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and devoted friends including Mr. Calvin Scott, (Pauline Scott). Willie Arthur Cosby's viewing/wake will be on Monday, July 20, 2015 from 6:00pm- 8:00pm at Jones and Turner Funeral Home, 484 Burney Street, P.O. Box 740, Madison GA 30650. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 11:00am at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1140 Pierce Dairy Rd., Madison, GA 30650.
