Mrs. Annie Bell Scott, affectionately known as "AB, Bam, Mama, Mother, Granny and GG" was born on December 29, 1938, in Loachapoka, Alabama. She was the second eldest of eight children born to the union of Walter Sr. and Zettie Gilliam.

In 1945, the family moved to Sarasota, Florida, where Annie Bell embraced her Christian faith. She was a devoted member of Bethel CME, serving as President of the Usher Board. At Booker High School, she excelled academically and stood out as a star basketball player. Annie made history as the first female lead drummer in her school's drumline.

Graduating with honors from Booker High School in 1952, she accomplished many "firsts," including serving on the first homecoming court, becoming the first female elevator operator at Doctors Hospital of Sarasota, and the first African American to dine inside the Whites-only McDonald's in Sarasota, breaking segregation norms.

In 1956, AB met, courted, and married Paul Scott Sr.; the love of her life and together they raised three children, Paul Jr., Kenneth, Felicia and bonus daughter Paula. After Paul Sr. secured employment with Chrysler, the family relocated to Detroit, Michigan. Once settled, the Scotts became deeply involved in the Nardin Park Community Church, actively serving in various capacities. Their dedication and contributions eventually led to leadership roles and transition to ownership of the Nardin Park Recovery Center. Following the passing of her husband in 1989, Mrs. Scott assumed the role of CEO and faithfully led for 36 years, a tenure that continued until her passing. Under her steadfast and committed leadership, Nardin Park continues to thrive and serve the community.

Mother Scott was a devoted and steadfast member of New Beginnings Cathedral from its very inception, serving under the leadership of Bishop Timothy A. Williams. Her commitment to her faith and her active participation in the church's ministries were a testament to her deep love for God and her community. Mrs. Scott played an integral role in supporting and uplifting the mission of New Beginnings Cathedral, leaving a lasting legacy of faith, dedication, and spiritual inspiration.

GG had a remarkable flair for fashion and an eye for the finer things in life. Her impeccable style and love for elegant pieces reflected her vibrant personality. She found great joy in shopping, often treating it as a cherished pastime that allowed her to explore the latest trends and express her individuality. GG also had a passion for traveling, embracing new experiences and adventures with an open heart and an undeniable sense of grace.

AB is reunited with her treasured family members: husband, Paul Scott Sr.; father, Walter; mother, Zettie; and brothers John and Vante.

On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, Annie Bell passed peacefully, surrounded by her daughter and granddaughter. She is lovingly remembered by those who will forever treasure the moments they shared with her. She leaves to cherish her memory: three loving children, Paul Jr. (Lajuana), Kenneth (Stephanie), Felicia (Tonya); bonus daughter, Paula (Gary); sister, Margaret; two granddaughters, Felicia and Kenyatta; grandson, Kenny; great grandchildren, McCoy, M'Ky, Jesiah, Jordan, Savannah, Brookelyn, Dakota Rae, and King; brothers, Walter, Irving (Carolyn) and Rev. Rudolph Gilliam; a host of nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

Annie Bell Scott's legacy is one of pioneering achievements, steadfast faith, and cherished family bonds.

Visitation will be held from 6:00pm-8:00pm on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at Bethel C.M.E. Church. Services will be held 1:00pm on Good Friday, April 18, 2025 at Bethel C.M.E. Church. Burial will be held at Palms Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements by Jones Funeral Home.
