Betty Jean Brown
Betty Jean Brown, 88, of Sarasota, Florida finished her assignment on earth in honor of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on December 27th, 2025. She was born to her parents in Arcadia Florida, George Brown and Earnestine Brown Murray on January 3, 1937.
Betty Jean Brown (Ms. Betty) grew up in Arcadia Florida, and graduated from Smith Brown High School on June 3, 1954 along with her grandmother, Irene Williams who went to night school to earn her diploma as well. This was unusual at that time and was well and positively publicized in the community. Ms. Betty later moved to Sarasota to build a life for herself and eventually, her children. She continued her education in the medical field earning her certifications and became a surgical technician, then began a career at Sarasota Memorial Hospital where she retired after 25 years of service.
Ms. Betty accepted Christ as a young child where she attended Pleasant Hill United Methodist church in Arcadia, Florida. Her belief and acceptance of her Lord and Savior was reinforced as during this era, her teachers and spiritual mentors at church, also served as her educators in elementary, middle, and high school.
Through her relationships at the Methodist church in Arcadia, Ms. Betty was able to connect with Rogers Community United Methodist Church in Bradenton, Florida where she remained as a member and consistent faithful tither for the rest of her life. Ms. Betty served the Lord in many capacities at Rogers during her tenure and was the elder of the church.
Ms. Betty is preceded in death by her precious daughter, Deirdre Hill. She leaves to cherish her legacy, her brother George L. Brown and his wife, Mattie Brown, sister Linda Bellamy, son, Pastor Sheldon Turner and his wife, Pastor Marsha Turner; son David Gavin and his wife Katrice Gavin; grandsons Dallas Hill, Samuel Turner, Jhalil Daniels; granddaughters; Kimberly Hill, Zana Gavin, Ravan Manley, Kaye Lamonti; great grandsons, Micah Hill, Levi Hill and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
May this devoted woman of God and loving mother rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love of the Lord she so faithfully served throughout her life.
Visitation will be held from 6:00pm-8:00pm on Fri., Jan. 16, 2026 at Jones Funeral Home. Services will be held 10:00am on Sat., Jan. 17, 2026 at Rogers Community United Methodist Church, 1100 15th St E, Bradenton, FL 34208. Burial will be held at Palms Memorial Park.
