Obituary For Cory Smith Jr.

Our lives changed and the world has lost a gentle giant in our beloved Cory. He transitioned to his Heavenly home on June 7, 2023, as the result of a fatal car accident. Cory was born on March 30, 2000, in Sarasota, Florida to Jane Milner and Cory Smith, Sr. At a very early age he went to live with his grandmother, Janice James, where he remained until his adult life. Being the first grandchild, he was the light of her life. She would say "Cory, don't you want to go home to your mother's house", and he would respond "no, I am already home".
From a young boy, Cory always had a million-dollar smile. When he entered a room, everyone knew he had 'arrived.' He was always happy and jubilant. Growing up, Cory played youth football for a short time and was encouraged to try basketball because of his height. He thought he was a great cook.

Cory attended Brentwood Elementary School, Mcintosh Middle School and graduated from Sarasota High School in 2018 where he was a proud member of the band. He played the drums with enthusiasm and a big smile on his face. A traveler he was, traveling to Tennessee, Alabama, California, and various cities in Florida. Cory worked on many jobs. The job he enjoyed the most was working for 1-800 ASK Gary.

Cory was preceded in death by his dad Cory, Sr. and his grandparents, Mary Daniels, James Milner and Willie Mae Yancy.

He leaves to cherish his memories: Son: Ezekiel Zayan Williams-Smith; Mother: Janea Milner;
Maternal Grandmother: Janice James (Renee); Sisters: Jah'Liya Phillips, Jah'Siya Phillips, Jah'Niya Phillips; Da'Jahnae Hawks, and Ta'Jahnae Hawks. Half Sisters: Charisma Smith, A'vianna Smith; Brother: Isaiah Smith Aunts: Megan James, Mallory James (Dip), Jaylah James, Opal Smith, Kayla Milner, Erica Milner, Johyne Evans, Vickie Smith, Jackie Thomas (Ralph) and Mary Yancy. Uncles: Ryan Milner (Toya), Colby James, Russell James, Steven Nix and Darrell Milner
and many cousins and sorrowing friends.

Visitation will be held from 6:00pm-8:00pm on Fri., June 16, 2023 at Light of the World International Church. Services will be held 1:00pm on Sat., June 17, 2023 at Light of the World International Church. Funeral arrangements by Jones Funeral Home.
