Eugene Rainey, of Sarasota, FL, passed away on September 16, 2025. Visitation will be held from 6:00pm-8:00pm on Friday, September 26, 2025 at Jones Funeral Home. Services will be held 1:00pm on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Lucille Blake Memorial Chapel at Jones Funeral Home. Burial will be held 12:30pm on Monday, September 29, 2025 at the Sarasota National Cemetery. Funeral arrangements by Jones Funeral Home.
Born on July 19, 1960 to the late Bertha and David E. Rainey.
He is the youngest amongst all his siblings.
He accepted Christ into his life at an early age and attended First Born Church.
He attended Sarasota County Schools and graduated from Riverview High School with the Class of 1979. At Riverview he was apart of the Audiovisual team and he was a stand out football player for the Rams earning himself many trophies, medals, awards, accolades and accomplishments that adorned the walls and shelves of the family home for years and years. Eugene attended a Historically Black College or University. (HBCU) North Carolina A&T University (Aggies) 1980-1982. #32 Running Back.
After college he joined the Army where he moved up in ranks effortlessly. Stationed in Germany. He started his own family there. After his military service he worked as a chef for several years at Eagles Nest, a popular tourist destination featuring a restaurant and museum.
Eugene was an avid lover of all things music, he loved to play music, he loved listening to music, he loved singing, he loved producing music and making beats.
He always had a calm demeanor, and was well liked by everyone. He was always willing to help.
He is preceded in death by his parents Bertha and David (“Rainbow”) (“Bubba”) Rainey; brothers Robert, and Lorenzo; sister Mary Alice.
Eugene leaves to cherish his Daughter Jennifer Regina Rainey; grandson Jayvien; brother, David; sisters, Barbara, Geraldine, Clematine Ates and brother-in-law Larry Ates; unwavering love for all his nieces and nephews, a host of cousins, good friends and family.
Eugene will be greatly missed by us all.
