Abdul Saleem, born Arthur Lee Brewton
(Butch). Was born in Spartanburg, SC on
December 24th, 1946 to London (L.A) and
Agnes (Lula) Brewton. He was the 3rd of
six children. His siblings were Boyce,
James, Evelyn, Peggy and Bonnie Faye.
He joined the Army in 1966. Shortly after
enlisting, he was blessed with a daughter
Alina McDowell. On a bus ride to Fort
McClellen, he met Cheryl Hunter. They
were married in 1968 and this union was
blessed with four children: Alisha,
Chaundria, Abdul and Jamal.
He was a construction welder before joining
the City of Atlanta fire department, where
he worked until retiring in 1986.
Abdul had an unforgettable personality.
Those that knew him would say he was
straightforward and didn't mince words. He
loved sports, especially football and boxing,
reading, listening to music and watching old
movies on TV
Abdul transitioned on November 7th, 2024
after a long illness.
Abdul was preceded in death by his parents
London and Agnes, siblings Boyce, James,
Evelyn, Peggy, Bonnie Faye and daughter
Alina.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his
devoted wife Cheryl, his children Alisha,
Chaundria (Mark), Abdul (Kendra) and
Jamal (Christie), six grandchildren Alisha,
Keilah, MaKayla, Michelle, Mya and Jordan,
three great- grandchildren Mekhi, Chance
and Lyric and a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins and friends.
Services will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, Spartanburg, SC.
