Deacon Arthur (June) Barrett, Jr., was born on March 19,1947, the beloved husband of Mrs. Vivian Sanders Barrett; the son of the late Arthur Barrett Sr, and Mamie Pearl Johnson Barrett. His Life “Pop Barrett” or “June” as he was affectionately known by his family. He was a 1967 graduate of Sims High School. After graduating from high school, he joined the US Marine Corp and served in the Vietnam War, which culminated with him earning the honor of bearing the colors back to the United States. Later in life he began his career at the Torrington Company as a supervisor. He was a former member of the New Hope African Methodist Episcopal Church, Sedalia, SC and later in life became a member of the Corinth Baptist Church Union, SC. As a member of the Corinth Baptist Church: he served on the Transportation Ministry, the Brotherhood Ministry, the Usher Board, a former Trustee Board member, Sunday School Superintendent, Jubilee Choir Leader and the Chairman of the Deacon Board Ministry where he served faithfully. His hobbies include: fishing, watching western movies, gardening, reading the bible, masonry and home renovation; which signifies him as being a jack of all trades. His civic accomplishments includes: on October 15,2010 it was declared to be the official “Arthur Barrett Day” and he was also presented the Key to the City for his service and contributions to the citizens in Union County. Arthur was a man of unusual strength in every aspect of his life which gave him the ability to overcome many obstacles in his lifetime. His Legacy He was the proud and beloved husband of Mrs. Vivian Sanders Barrett. His legacy lives on through his daughters: Mrs. Veronica (Nathan) Covington of San Antonio, TX and Ms. Calandra Barrett of the home; four grandchildren: Tyler Christiana Covington, Nathan Covington, II, Michael Purdie and Michaela Simone Purdie; three sisters: Mrs. Dorothy (Billy) Jeter, Mrs. Matilda (Clarence) Renwick and Mrs. Wilhelmenia Beaty; four brothers: Mr. James (Emma), Mr. Ernell (Dorothy) Barrett, Mr. Howard Barrett and Mr. Frederick (Sharon) Barrett; one sister-n-love: Ms. Mildred Sanders; one brother-in- law: Mr. Franklin Sanders; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; two godchildren: Keiston and Kennedy Jeter. Arthur was preceded in death by; one brother: Mr. Allen Barrett; one sister: Mrs. Eunice “Betty” Thompson. His extended family includes: Mr. Mickey D. Gist (best friend), Mr. Clifford Falls and Mr. Jimmy “Poke Salad” Peak. He will be greatly missed and the void that God has placed in the lives of those who knew him is irreplaceable.
Funeral Services for Deacon Arthur Barrett, Jr. will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at the Pacolet River Association Building, 168 Lovers Lane Road, Union, SC. Pastor James A. Calhoun, officiating and Reverend Terry Norman, Presiding. Interment will be in the Union Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Union, SC.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church.
The family is receiving guests at the home from 3:00p.m. - 8:00 p.m. daily.
