Obituary For Barbara Tyus

Spartanburg, SC - Barbara Jean Hudson Tyus was born on March 31, 1959 in Sweetwater, Alabama to J.T. and Bernice Dixon Hudson. Mrs. Tyus entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 21, 2015. She was the wife of Eric Patrick Tyus. Mrs. Tyus was a member of Shady Oak Baptist Church in Greenville, SC. Barbara graduated from Blount High School, Class of 1977. She received her secondary education from Alabama State University and SC State University, where she earned her Bachelors and Masters in Education, respectively. Mrs. Tyus taught keyboarding for Richland County and Spartanburg County Schools and Spartanburg Community College for many years. She was a dedicated civil servant; a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. for over 30 years, and an engaged member of the Civitan International organization. She leaves to cherish fond and loving memories to: her husband, Eric Tyus; her daughter, Erica Leandra Tyus; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. JT Hudson; her sisters, Delores Whitney (predeceased by Allen Whitney), Belinda (Darren) Pettis and Janice (Jerome) Lafayette; her parents-in-love, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Patrick Tyus; her sisters-in-marriage, Venita Tyus Billingslea (predeased by Adrian Bellingslea), Tracy Tyus Hill, Adrianne (Tony) Tyus Shaw and Sheri (Derwin) Tyus Lee; her dear friends, Annie Broner and Marjorie Cleveland; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. A Celebration of the Life of Barbara Jean Hudson Tyus will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel. 602 Howard St., Spartanburg, SC. Senior Pastor Douglas Simmons, M. Div., will officiate. Interment will be in the Heritage Memorial Gardens, 3901 S. Church St., Roebuck, SC. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will conduct final rites for Barbara J. Hudson Tyus at 9:00 a.m. in the Chapel prior to funeral services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Barbara Jean Hudson Tyus to the SC Alzheimer Association, 4124 Clemson Blvd. Suite L, Anderson, SC 29621.
