Bonita Perkins Newby, formerly of Milwaukee, WI and Greensboro, NC, transitioned on Monday, August 10, 2026 at Spartanburg Regional Hospital, Spartanburg, SC.
Mourning her loss are: her sons, Jonathan (Alysha); grandchildren, Ella and Georgie of Milwaukee,WI, Joshua of Moore, SC;sister, Jean Perkins Blackley (Donnie) of Spartanburg,SC; niece, Sonja Little of Moore, SC; sister-in-law, Alison Newby Taylor of Fairburn, GA; and other family members and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 502 S. Daniel Morgan Ave., Spartanburg, SC.

I will miss Bonita immensely. We met on the first day of UNC Black Pre orientation in August 1974. It was the start of our freshman year and we remained friends until her passing. She was sweet, reliable and a trusted resource whom I will miss as I miss "Bird!" May you both rest in the comfort of the Lord forever!
Mrs.Bonita was such a light. I met her at the UNC BAR (Black Alumni Reunion) in 2018. Upon first meeting we sat and talked for an hour or 2 after everyone left. We later found out she grew up with my aunts on my dad's side. She became like family to me. We had so many shared interests and in life's big and small events we remained connected. It was nothing for her to message, comment on Facebook or even call. She was so full of love. Heaven truly gained an angel. Take your rest Mrs.Bonita.
