Calvin "JD" Haney departed his earthly life on June 4, 2025 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He was born in Spartanburg County on May 13, 1946, and grew up in Roebuck, SC. JD graduated from Lincoln High School in 1964 and was drafted into the U.S. Army.
JD later moved to Ohio, where he married Gloria Jean Graham (Haney). Together, they built a loving family, raising three children. JD served in the Army Reserve and retired after twenty years of dedicated service with the City of Dayton's Sewer Division.
JD is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gloria Haney; his three children, Calvin (Ramona) Haney, Carlton "Pookey" Haney, and Christie Haney; five grandchildren, Tania Davis, Carlton II (Amaya) Haney, Aisha (Jon) Bell, Travon Davis, and Seth (Grace) Haney; and two great-grandchildren, Kyrie and Mia Edwards. He is also survived by his sister, Geraldine Hillstock, and his stepbrothers, Leroy (Joann) Douglas and John (Cynthia) Douglas. He will be fondly remembered by his in-laws, Laverne Haynes, Henry Gross "Skinny", Patricia Del Rio "Trish", and his colleagues Walter Edwards, Dwight Shern, Cecil Foster, and Mr. Locket.
JD is preceded in death by his brothers L.C. Haney, Robert Haney, and John Arthur "Pokie" Haney, his sister Callie Nash, and honorary son Travis Davis.
He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will carry on his memory.
Calvin "JD" Haney will be honored with a private burial at the Dayton National Cemetery on Thursday, June 12th. The family warmly invites everyone to celebrate his remarkable life on Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 5 PM to 9 PM at Muse, located at 6504 N. Union Road, Clayton, Ohio 45315
