Ms. Celeste Denise Wallace, fondly called “Necey” by her relatives and friends, was born on
March 4, 1960 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She was the last of the four children born to the
late McKinley Wallace, Jr. and Murylen Harris Wallace Broom. After sixty-four years, she left
her earthly home to obtain her promised reward on Thursday, February 6, 2025.
At an early age, Celeste attended Hardy Chapel Baptist Church. She began her schooling at
Lincoln Elementary School in Fairforest, South Carolina and graduated from Dorman High
School, Class of 1978. Afterwards, she worked in the manufacturing area. Celeste was a kind
person with a huge heart. She brought light to those who loved her dearly and put herself
before others most times. She also really loved children and pets. She was an icon of fashion,
always looking very stylish. Most importantly, she was a strong, courageous woman who had
had strong faith in the Lord and accepted him as her Savior.
Celeste “Necey” leaves to mourn her passing her loving children, Chavis Cook, Tampa, FL;
Stephen Cook (Leidy), Kaylin Wallace, Brittany Wallace, and Isaac Oglesby-Wallace, all of
Spartanburg, SC; adorable grandchildren who were her whole heart, Isabella Gutierrez, Alex
Gutierrez, Beautiful Angel Wallace, Emma Celeste Cook, and Glory Faith Wallace, all who called
her “Memaw”; siblings, Gail (Anthony) Wallace Tolbert, Summerville, SC; Rev. Tyman M.
(Glinda) Wallace, Raeford, NC; and Janet N. Broom, Summerville, SC; two foster brothers,
Jimmy and James Artison; aunt, Marion Wallace Webb, Coney Island, New York; uncle, Deacon
Robert McCluney (the late Ruby W.); and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her stepfather, Pervis Broom; sister, Sherrill
Wallace Dowlington; and stepsisters, Virginia B. Miller and Barbara Broom. Our wish is that
God will grant Celeste “Necey” sweet peace and eternal rest, for we know she is saying this:
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store
for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on
that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” 2 Timothy
4:7-8 (NIV)
Memorial service and burial will be private.
