Charles Edward Kelly was born February 19, 1947, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, to Ms. Thelma Kelly. He was the grandson of the late James and Gertrude Kelly. He graduated from Carver High School, Class of 1965. After high school, he joined the US Army where he served in Vietnam. He worked as a Professional Road Engineer (truck driver) for many years before retirement.
Left to cherish many memories are: his wife, Maxine Kelly of Roebuck, SC; two sons, Deon Kelly and Cortez Cunningham both of Spartanburg, SC; one daughter, Marilyn Wynette Kelly of Roebuck, South Carolina; his mother, Thelma Kelly of Spartanburg, SC; two sisters, Mary Black (David) of Pauline, South Carolina and Alsie Sullivan (John) of Spartanburg, South Carolina; one brother, Terry Kelly of Spartanburg, South Carolina; Twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren: and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Willie Kelly.
Charles spent every day sitting on the front porch and visiting with all of his relatives and friends. James Turner “Sleepy” was there every day to check on him, making sure he was ok. He was there in the afternoon and in the evening. Charles always had someone there.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday May 13 2025 at 1:00 at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel.
