Mr. Charlie “Hawk” Anderson, son of the late Mr. Isaac Anderson and Mrs. Alice Thomas
Anderson, was born January 23, 1948 in Spartanburg, South Carolina and raised in Pauline,
South Carolina. Mr. Anderson, affectionately known as Charlie Hawk, entered eternal rest
peacefully in his home on Friday, September 1, 2023 after a brief illness.
Charlie Hawk loved people. He never met a stranger and he gave a nickname to everyone he
knew. He graduated from Lincoln High School and shortly after, he entered into the Army.
While in the Army, Charlie Hawk served in the Vietnam War and participated in boxing. He was
an avid bowler and in prior years he loved playing baseball. He was a member of the Imperial
Social Club for many years where they adorned the colors black and gold. He was a long time
employee of Spartanburg Steel and eventually retired from there after many promotions and 36
years of service. After retirement Charlie Hawk loved swapping war stories with other military
Veterans and sitting in his favorite chair watching westerns.
Charlie Hawk was a loving husband, brother, father and grandfather. Left to cherish fond
memories are his wife Shirley Pitts Anderson; one (1) daughter Likita (Bryan) Michelle Johnson
of Atlanta, Georgia; one (1) son Charlie “Chip” Anderson Jr. of Spartanburg, South Carolina;
one (1) sister Reverend Pitty Hudson; seven (7) grandchildren; six (6) great grandchildren; and a
host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was proceeded in death by his son Anthony Hunter formerly of Union, South Carolina; and
his brother Mr. Leroy “Shank” Anderson formerly of Spartanburg, South Carolina.
He will be missed, but the memories will be lasting.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 8,2023 at 4:00 p.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard St., Spartanburg, SC. Burial will follow in the Heritage Memorial Gardens, 3901 S. Church St., Roebuck, SC.
