Deacon Louis Dean Oglesby, Jr., “Deani”, answered the Master’s call on Saturday morning, June 5, 2021 at his residence. Deacon Oglesby was born on August 15, 1942 to the late Louis Dean Oglesby, Sr. and Rhoda Dover Oglesby. Deacon Oglesby was the devoted husband of Mrs. Mae Helen Tinsley Oglesby for fifty-five years.
He was a 1961 graduate of Foster Grove High School and was very proud of being a student school bus driver as well! Mr. Oglesby attended Spartanburg Technical College and was a commercial licensed driver for Standard Trucking Company and Overnite Trucking Company. "Deani" worked at Siemens Automotive until his retirement. After retiring, Deacon Oglesby pursued his childhood dream and passion of photography. He was widely known and praised for his great work with portraits, CD’s, and videos at very reasonable prices for all occasions. Mr. Oglesby was affectionately known as the “Photoman”.
Deacon Oglesby wisely accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age at Island Creek Baptist Church in Cowpens, SC, where he a member and was ordained as a Deacon under the late Rev. Dr. Leon Rector, Jr. He was also a former member of the New Zion Baptist Church in Spartanburg, SC before returning to his family home church. Deacon Oglesby lived his life as an example of love and service to others and was a faithful believer in the power of prayer. He was a quiet, reserved and well-respected man of God.
Mr. Oglesby was preceded in death by: two sisters, Ms. Florine Oglesby and Mrs. Juanita Oglesby Hackett; and two brothers, Mr. Emmanuel Oglesby and Mr. R.G. Oglesby. In addition to his wife, Deaconess Mae Helen Oglesby, he leaves to cherish fond memories to: one son, Mr. Richard Dean Oglesby; one daughter, Ms. Kelli Michelle Oglesby both of Spartanburg, SC; three sisters, Mrs. Willie Mae Simpson of Whitney, SC, Mrs. Elizabeth Meadows of Roebuck, SC, and Mrs. Naomi (Wallace) Hardy of Spartanburg SC; three grandchildren, Ms. Keturah Moses and Mr. Richard (Courtney) “Fella” Oglesby both of Spartanburg SC, and Mrs. Sade (Montrellio) Patterson of Salisbury , NC; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Funeral services for Deacon Louis Dean Oglesby, Jr., “Deani” will be held Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Island Creek Baptist Church, 2118 Battleground Rd., Cowpens, SC. Rev. Dr. Timothy Hunter and Rev. Dr. Thomas E. Massey, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Gardens, 2256 Cannons Campground Rd., Drayton, SC. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 11, 2021 from 6:00 p.m.-7:00p.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard St., Spartanburg, SC.
