Celebrating the Life of

Debra Marie King

March 11, 1958 – July 26, 2025

Obituary

Debra Marie King peacefully departed this life at home on July 26, 2025. She was born on March 11, 1958, in Washington, D.C., to the late Thomas Isiah Nunn and Adeline Thelma Russell.
She spent her early years in the Bronx, New York, where she began her education. She later earned her high school diploma from Teaneck High School in New Jersey. Shortly after graduation, Debra began her healthcare career at St. Barnabas Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide. Her compassion and humor made her a favorite among patients, many of whom formed strong bonds with her.

Debra later accepted a position at Bergen Pines Hospital in Paramus, New Jersey. In search of new opportunities and closer family ties, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she continued her work in healthcare. Eventually, she returned to Hackensack, New Jersey, where she lived for many years. Most recently, Debra relocated to Spartanburg, South Carolina, a move she truly enjoyed and embraced with joy and optimism.

Debra was a woman full of life. She loved laughing, dancing, and being with her children. Known for her quick wit and humor, she had a remarkable gift for turning even her own pain into laughter for others. Her jokes, stories, and infectious laughter brought light to every room she entered.

Debra was deeply devoted to her family and held her siblings close to her heart:

Ione Quarterman, Christine Nunn and Howard King whopreceded her in death.

She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory:
Her beloved children – Jamel Forbes, Medina Clarke, and Alaya Clarke
Her daughter-in-law – Sonia Forbes
Her treasured grandchildren – Hasair Clarke, Jamilah Clarke, Jazleen Forbes, Aliyah White, Amayiah Hendricks, Jamair Clarke, and Amir Williamson
And a host of cousins, relatives, and dear friends who will always remember her love, generosity, laughter, and strength.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 11:00am at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard Street, Spartanburg, SC.

Family and Friends viewing will be held on Friday, August 1, 2025 from 4:00pm - 8:00pm at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard Street, Spartanburg, SC.
