Mrs. Dorie Lee Jeter Thomas departed this life on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at home surrounded by loved ones. A native of Spartanburg County, she was born April 28, 1941 to the late Mr. Savanah Jeter and Mrs. Christine Kelly Jeter. She was the widow of Mr. Curtis Thomas Sr. and was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Curtis Thomas Jr., brothers, Mr. Freeman Jeter, Mr. Eulisher Jeter, and Mr. Clayton Jeter.
Dorie was a 1959 graduate of Carver High School and attended Benedict College in Columbia, SC. In 1965, she moved to Newark, New Jersey and was employed by Ford Motors for a number of years. She also worked production at Red Devil Inc., Irvington, NJ and retired from East Orange School System as a bus attendant.
She was an active member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church, Newark, NJ until returning to South Carolina in 2015. She was affiliated with local Churches of God in Christ in Spartanburg when she returned.
She leaves to cherish fond memories: a daughter, Ms. Andrea L. Thomas; grandchildren, Ms. Fakeerah N. Thomas and Mr. Tyshee Lindsey-Thomas; great-grandchildren: Najayyiah Lyles, Marley Thomas, Tylia Armstrong, Kyngston Jenkins, and Kyan Lindsey-Thomas; great-great-grandchild: Jiiyiah Lyles; sisters, Mrs. Margaret McNally and Mrs. Cecil Diane Ross; brother Mr. Emanuel Jeter; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard St., Spartanburg, SC.
