Dorothy Simons Byrd
Dorothy Simons Byrd, 89, recently of Charlotte, North Carolina, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday, November 4, 2021. Mrs. Byrd was the daughter of the late Pearl Lacy Simons and the late Ellen Marshall Simons. She was the widow of the late Roosevelt Byrd.
Mrs. Byrd, retired, was an employee of Spartanburg School System District 7 for many years as a teacher, and spent 58 years as a Girl Scouts troop leader.
Left with fond memories of her legacy are: one brother, William C. Simons of Wadesboro, NC; daughters, Deotha Bobo of Laurel, MD and Rose Barksdale of Conyers, GA; sons, Eddie Byrd of Atlanta, GA, Freddie Byrd of Greenville, SC, Roosevelt (Mildred) Booker of Statesville, NC and Gerald Jackson of Charlotte, NC; nieces, Marcia (Marvin) Scott of Durham, NC, Maxine Best of Fayetteville, NC, Dianne Simons of Manassas, VA, Gloria (Alvin) Flanagan of Laurel, Maryland, Cheryl Johnson of Richmond, VA, Sandra Craddock of Richmond, VA, Beatrice Craddock of Richmond, VA, Alma Warner-Hilton (Eric) of Conway, SC, Daphne Simons of Washington, DC, Ursula Simons of Raleigh, NC, Valencia Washington of El Paso, TX and Karen Williams of Dallas, TX; nephews, Charles Simons of Manassas, VA, Donald Simons of Dunn, NC, Tony Simons of Wadesboro, NC, Joel Simons of Mooresville, NC, Robert (Irene) Craddock of Richmond, VA and Rahman Simons, III (Carol) of Plainfield, NJ; special friends, Lola Gilliam, Thomasena Gooden, Vanessa Allen and Betty Jones; and a host of grandchildren, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a village of friends.
A Celebration of the Life of Dorothy Simons Byrd will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Spartanburg, SC. The Reverend Dr. Benjamin D. Snoddy will officiate. Burial will be held on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. in the Richmond/Sturdivant Cemetery, 895 Boykin Rd., Polkton, NC. COVID protocol will be observed.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021 from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard St., Spartanburg, SC.

As the Community Development Manager for Spartanburg, I always looked forward to seeing Dorothy with her girls at the Girl Scouts Mall Lockin. She would always last all night better than me. I'm sorry to lose Dorothy but she has touched so many hearts in her life, she can take a rest now. I miss her. My condolences to the family.

Mrs.Bryd was such a wonderful person. My mother, Mrs. Sadie Jeter was an assistant girl scout leader in Mrs.Byrd's Troop. She was an excellent example for all of us who were blessed to know her!!
