Dorothy Ann Downs
Dorothy Ann Rector-Downs, widow of Henry Lee “Snook” Downs. She was the daughter of the late Golden and Vincie Lee Brooks-Rector. Dorothy passed on December 4, 2020.
Mrs. Downs was a faithful mother and member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
She was a retired domestic worker for the Constans and Elliott families for over 50 years. Dorothy left school in the 5th grade to help and care for her mom.
Mrs. Downs was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She would feed anyone; she went above and beyond for her family.
Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: her children, Annie Neal of Greer SC, Courtney Diane Downs-McClintock of the home, Benny (Angela) Downs of Spartanburg, SC; sister, Mary Downs of Duncan SC; brothers, Golden “Bubba” Rector, Jr. of Greer, SC and Jerry (Mary) Brooks of Lyman, SC; seven grandchildren, Ryland Antraud (Nicole) Neal of Greenville, SC, Latonia Neal of Lyman SC and Cory Cheeks of Spartanburg SC, LaQueta McClintock of Spartanburg, SC, James McClintock of the home, Jamesia Downs of Duncan SC, and Monique Downs of Sacramento California all reared in the home; fifteen great-grandchildren; five great-great- grandchildren; brother-in-law, Azon (Talmadge) Downs of Spartanburg, SC; sister-in-law, Annette Downs of Spartanburg, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by: her siblings, Evelyn Jones and Joseph Rector; granddaughter, Charnette Neal; sisters-in-law, Catherine Payden,Mamie Downs, Carrie Lee Hull, Essie Mae Toler, Margaret Gilmore, Margie Foster, Ophelia Boyd and Carrie Mayfield; brothers-in-law, Roosevelt Downs, Sr., Joe Louis Downs,Sr., Rev. George Downs, Sr., Vernon Payden, Sr., Odell Jones, Sr., Ostell Downs and Raymond Sullivan.
A Celebration of the Life of Dorothy Downs will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 220 Austin St., Spartanburg, SC. Rev. Akeem J. Downs will officiate. Burial will be in the Lincoln Memorial Gardens, 2310 Cannons Campground Rd., Spartanburg, SC.

You guys are all in my prayers. I remember the last time I saw Aunt Dot was in the summer of 2019. It has been awhile since I been back to SC. I was able to bring my 2 oldest children and who was able to met her. I just remember that beautiful smile and her telling me that I was her "chocolate girl". She was will be truly missed.
