I sang, professionally, for about 30 years, with several different opera companies and professional choruses. I've performed in many of the best concert halls on the East Coast. I have a love of singing and choral music, that began as a child and was fostered, nurtured and encouraged, leading to all those things I mentioned previously, because of Dr. Turner. She was the Minister of Music at the church in which I grew up. I listened, with rapt attention, every Sunday, hoping I could someday join them. She was so gifted! She turned up at a performance I took part I , at the Basilica of Sts. Peter & Paul. Afterward, she told me how proud she was. I told her it was because of her, that I was there. She was the best!
My deepest condolences to her family, friends, and students. I was a music major at Mastbaum. I remember her fondly. May she rest in peace.
Dear Family & Friends of Dr. Turner FYI-Dr. Turner is featured in a mural painting on the side of a building located at Montgomery Avenue & 29th Street here in Philadelphia. The artist presents Dr. Turner playing a grand piano and surrounded by prominent African Americans who influenced our community. She is identified as "Miriam Minyard". I hope that you have an opportunity to visit the mural soon. What a legacy Dr. Turner left.
So very sorry to learn of the passing of Dr. Turner. She was our choir director in the late 60's-early 70's at school, Robert Vaux Jr. High School in Phila. She was a true perfectionist with very high expectations for her students. She leaves a great legacy and is now resting in peace with God.
I was one Mrs. Turner's students in her choir. She was so wonderful to all of us who were her students. I have so many memories of her. I loved being in choir and having her lead us.
My condolences to Carol and the family. upon graduation, I chose to teach at Vaux Junior High (1968). Miriam took me under her wing and changed my life. She was a musician par excellence, a great teacher and a fun, fabulous person. I can still hear her voice and her laughter. Love goes on. I am still in touch with some of those students over the years. From Bright Hope to the bright stars, may she be remembered forever!
Dr. Miriam Turner's was a wonderful musician and friend. I often think about our working together at Salem Baptist Church of Jenkintown many years ago. My condolences to the family. Carol, you have done a wonderful job taking care of your beautiful mother. We have lost a treasure but she's resting in the arms of Jesus. To God be the glory.
Carole Minyard Isaac and family, I extend my love, support and prayers in the transition of your mother and love one, Dr Miriam Turner. In December,1979 at Salem Baptist Church in Jenkintown, PA (now in Abington, PA), I met a dynamic and gifted Minister of Music who directed The Church Choir. I was so happy when she let me sing a solo part "I'm Free" with the choir. Her visions, administrative skills and guidance provided musical experiences for young and old, attracted exceptional musicians which propelled the Music Ministry (The Church Choir, The Inspirational Choir, The Robert Johnson Smith Male Chorus, The Chapel and Celestial Choir) with phenominal concerts known throughout the Tri-States. So glad I was able to speak her on an earthly birthday call October 12, 2024!!! Blessings of Comfort, Joy and Peace....
Dr Turner was my my music teacher at Mastbaum, she was tough but fun and we learned to appreciate music much more because of her! She was always there to lend an ear to any of us that needed it. What a gift she has been to so many! My condolences to her family.

Dr. Turner was a wonderful woman. She was a mother when my mother was miles away while I attended college in Spartanburg, SC. She looked out for me in many ways and I am so happy our paths crossed. She is the reason I am the educator I am today. Her wisdom and strength have been an inspiration to many and will continue to for years/generations to come. I love you and will miss you greatly!! Love, April
